The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

For the first time in my life I've booked a week off work specifically for a game. Could not be more excited for this game. :)

Right thats two days late arrival only to find out your configuration has some weird bug that'll take a few days until the drivers are released to address it :D

Took a week of for Oblivion - was a good week!

A week off for Oblivion - thats hilarious !
I bet you didnt get anywhere near finishing it.

I played it for 150 hours and closed about 3 Oblivion Gates - :@ too much fun exploring leveling up - Amazing Game!!

No game I have played since is as good - I still think its one of if not the best I have ever played. 2 Fallouts are ok, but pants by comparison - somehting about sword, shield, magic, bow arrows makes it feel more ....... something can explain - rather than a gun blasting a scorpion that always runs straight at you

I expect Skyrim to be amazing in every way - cant wait!! worth every penny

Hope my system will run Skyrim maxed

My old Dual Core AMD and SLI 7800 GT (think thats what they were) struggled big time with Oblivion

Why is that hilarious? I didn't take the week off with the aim of finishing it, just to give me more time to play it. I took plenty more days off to finish it :)

Is EllisDJ schizophrenic?

why is he arguing with himself?

It just is - I would have loved to have taken a week off to play it an
Although the game did cause me to get a ganglion on my wrist - I promise it was the game nothing else!!

No not the collectors edition, should be called the fanatics edition.
Only a fanatic fan would buy that at that price - cost of a SSD !!

I'm hoping that the cities are large enough to get lost in, and provide plenty of interesting opportunities for a thief.

If they have, as they have already stated, actually built all cities/dungeons up by hand, not slap and paste, then I think this will be the case until you have played the game for many hours.

If scale in oblivion is to go by, then the cities/towns will be ok, but they mentioned there will be less towns and cities so I can only assume it's because they are bigger?

Which also begs the question, what is going to be the deal with load times? Will it be a case of running to a door, load time, rinse repeat whilst going through any city or town?

Is there any news on what the crafting will be like? I understand there will be Smithing, Alchemy and Enchanting; I'm just curious how good the Smithing will be. Hopefully there will be a decent crafting system.

i have a feeling they'll be as small as oblivion, which is shameful tbh. the cities all felt verry small and life less.

from what i remember there will be the same load screens when going into a town and then each new building

what is the point of having huge cities uneccesarily, quite often you want to get in, sell off all your loot and get out again.

It would drive you mental to have to go through loads of doors ie. loads of loading just to do this.

Maybe travelling merchants like in fallout would obviously work then you can have your huge cities!!

Agreed. You only really need one or two giant cities. All the others should be medium to small.

Unless there is code to protect the traveling merchants (like in Fallout NV), then I doubt they will be included.

I agree, I'd rather have smaller towns with NPC that all have a purpose and able to explore every nook of them than to have just big cities full of street after street of uninteresting beggars.

A couple of big cities and a mix of towns and settlements for me. Filling the game with huge cities just to show they can serves no benefit IMO.

Also, I liked the travelling merchants in Fallout. It was pretty nice to have the random encounters on the roads, but also to have a different one each time you went to a city to mix up the items available.
