The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Yeah I agree. I think Morrowind did it better than Oblivion too. Morrowinds Vivec was nice on paper but in reality it was really awkward with the different quarters on seperate islands compared to Imperial City which did actually look and feel like a City.

Morrowind just did the other cities better. Oblivions were all roughly the same size just with different layouts and environments whereas Morrowind had them ranging from large towns smaller villages. All the small villages on Oblivion were pretty much empty or just an inn and nothing more. Nothing like fishing villages or hunting villages or so on. Either way we don't want more than 1, max 2 big ones. It would just be excessive.

I want large cities because I spend a good amount of time crawling around them at night, breaking into people's homes, and then stealing all their fine china before getting away by jumping from balcony to balcony to find a nice quiet spot to check my loot and fence it.

I think some of you obviously never played Oblivion with the Open Cities mod, which added the city to the world, removing the loading screen to enter and exit it. This allowed you to just "ride on into town" as it were, even on horseback.

I don't need to play with it to know exactly what it does... its hardly difficult to imagine Oblivions cities done like Morrowind. Really I don't see what all the fuss is about. Ald Ruhn had a wall around it, as did some of the other cities. Once they removed Levitation there was no need to worry about you flying over city walls so they could actually serve a purpose. Like the Gate of Dawn and Dusk or whatever it was called, with the huge wall around the mountain.

I don't see how it has the slightest effect on 'midnight activities'. You can still jump between houses where they made it possible (which they didn't because nowhere had balconies). The main thing it lacked would've been some sort of Thieves Road on the rooftops with ladders leading up but that sort of thing just doesn't happen sadly.

I played a pure thief on Oblivion. Most houses have jack in them worth stealing. If you make cities bigger all you'll end up with is significantly more houses with bugger all in them worth nicking.

Jumping between rooftops was very possible if you had high Acrobatics or good equipment (Boots of Springheel Jak), also Skingrad has narrow streets and balconies, some of which even allow you to gain access to the upper levels of houses.

The Thieves Highway mod added ladders to the rooftops in the Imperial City, wooden planks were added between some rooftops, and access to various buildings through rooftop hatches which were as difficult to break into as the front door. I would personally welcome something similar in at least one of the cities.

Indeed, however it all adds to the immersion, and makes finding that house filled with silverware and high-level weapons all the more gratifying.

Not sure if this has been mentioned as i haven't seen anything on the subject...are all the dungeons going to look the same again? That was a big big letdown for me.

Skingrad being pretty much the only example and that was rather limited.

And really when it came to good loot all you really had to do was look out for the upper-class quarter or anything with the word 'Manor' on it or simply just the shops and go back at night. There was only rarely something elsewhere.

YES! :D:D:D:D:D

I'm hoping they make the cities big and complex. I want to feel immersed in a 'living' world, not just a click-door-loadingscreen-city crap. Although they've already stated I believe that it'll be the case.

I always found it crap that there are about 50 people in the whole province in Oblivion. And about 30 houses. I don't even have to be able to get to all of them, but the illusion of them being there is probably more important. It's supposed to be about me feeling like I'm wandering through a great city. Not 4 shops, an inn and a couple of houses.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I had to laugh when you couple that news with this-

Skyrim will not use GFWL

There was some concern back in June when the collector’s edition was announced, showing the PC version of the game with partly obscured Games for Windows branding on the box. It’s a huge relief to confirm we won’t have to tangle with the maddeningly unreliable GFWL.
LOL:D

Beaten by a minute, but i had a quote so we'll call it a draw....

Very nice. Still I'm hesitant to pre-order. Question is still whether it'll be stable enough and frankly I doubt my pc could run it at anything but rock bottom settings right now...
