The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Argh, having a bit of a nightmare here. Just upgraded from a 560 Ti to a 7950 and now Skyrim won't open. The launcher says "Radeon 7900 series" at the top, but defaults to 'Low' and I cannot change AA or AF. All the resolution dropdowns are blank. Rendererinfo.txt is totally blank in my Skyrim folder. I have reinstalled CCC and it made no difference.

Any suggestions? :(

The problem only seems to exist via HDMI on my TV. I'm having a lot of trouble with it.

Installed card (no CCC yet). Booted up. No image via HDMI (although the TV displayed '1080p/50Hz' so seemed to be getting some sort of signal.

Tried on monitor via DVI. Worked fine. Installed CCC 12.9 beta.

Switched back to TV. No image while booting, but got an image once Windows had loaded. Scaling was screwed and needed tinkering with. Tried to play Skyrim again and got the above issues. Switched to the monitor via DVI and it worked fine.

Uninstalled 12.9 and installed 12.8. Again, fine on the monitor, but now I'm back to no image whatsoever via HDMI on the telly.

Are there known issues with 7000 series cards and HDTVs? Even when I managed to get a signal in Windows, the scaling was screwy and I couldn't quite get it to fit the screen correctly at the sides. It seems like the HDMI signal the card outputs is pretty screwed.

Strange, was playing earlier, and now trying to log back in, getting a
'You local files conflict with those of the steam cloud'
Its asking me if I want to update from local to steam cloud
or from steam cloud to local

Its helpfully telling me both set of files were updated today, but not giving hours or minutes, so I have no clue which is actually the most recent.

Assume local is more recent?

Ah, every time I see this thread crop up I want to reinstall Skyrim and actually complete the main story line :p.

Might treat myself early next year.

Finally got my head round how important load order is and stopped the crashes. Now, after plodding on since mid June, I might actually be able to go some way to finishing it.

It's hopefully something all of you will already be doing, just a noob mistake on my behalf. I thought NMM contained BOSS built in, but it doesn't. The golden rules to avoid skyrim crashes:

- Every time you install a new mod, run BOSS gui to sort out your load order. You can get BOSS from the Nexus. Invaluable tool, and by far the most important thing to stop crashes. Same goes for if you take one off (see below). Since I started using it, crashes have been very few, and very far between. I don't completely understand how load order works, but I know this is a MUST if you mod your skyrim.

Also...

- If you have a mod, and you save your game, be warned that there is a chance the mod data can be in your save game. I read once that Bethesda recommend once a mod is on, it stays on, and you don't take it off! If you take it off, and re save, you do so at your own risk.
- Always read the info page for a mod before installing it.
- Don't install mods that do the same sort of thing and could clash.
- Don't use autosave for anything.
- Monitor your VRAM usage if you're using a lot of texture mods too see if your maxing out your card using Afterburners OSD.

Turns out I am a noob also. I thought the same as you! Thanks for the info.

Also, I can't get the Afterburner OSD working with Skyrim. All the settings seems to be set correctly...
