The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

In the Skyrim Launcher try setting Shadows to low and see what FPS you get.

No change at all, still capped at 40fps...

It's definitely some sort of inbuilt artificial cap at work, it will stay at 40fps whether i look to a full screen of scenery or look up to an empty sky..doesn't move from 40fps.

In My Documents/My Games/Skyrim (whatever it is) delete the skyrim.ini files and then restart the game, this will repopulate them.
MSI Afterburner, RTSS Server or anything similar running?

Nvidia Inspector should have set some values differently to the stock Nvidia Control Panel which help with SLI, however it might have done that but can't see the results due to a FPS limit I guess.

Well that's interesting, just for the hell of it I disabled SLI in the control panel and ran it...38fps.

But now it will go up to 60fps when I look up to the sky.

So my 2nd 970 is barely doing anything and is causing a 40fps cap when it's enabled.

Oh well, guess it just doesn't like SLI @4k, thanks for your help anyway.

You have a 4K monitor/TV or you using DSR to do 4K? Maybe it's a combination of DSR+SLI causing a problem if you are doing it that way.

4K monitor....and it's definitely some sort of SLI driver issue.

Just ran the game at 1440p 8xAA on a single card with SLI disabled and it gave a buttery smooth 60fps, do the same with SLI enabled and once a again it's a juddery 40fps mess.

New Nexus Mod Manager

Version 0.53.0

1. New Feature: Mod Activation Queue added.
2. New Feature: Backup restore functionality added.
3. Bugfix: Fixed many instances of NMM crashing when a file is locked by another process.
4. Bugfix: Fixed a progress bar “ArgumentOutOfRange” crash.
5. Bugfix: Fixed shift+click multiselection on the mods control.

EDIT : It's really slow now, takes an age to deactivate a mod :(
EDIT : Now it's hanging while "Queuing" in the new tab, so I'm going to downgrade!

QUESTION :

Does anyone have a good list of character mods for changing female textures and male textures? Not sure what I've done but after installing a character change I didn't like, they have different feet/ankles and shape to the rest of the body :O

Uninstalled it and the issue remains

just out of curiosity have you tried the same at 1080p?

whenever i try and resolutions over 1080p the game just doesn't run right in SLI..

Drop it down and on 970 SLI with ENB and 100's of mods it runs smooth as.

Added to op!

Hmm had a nice little encounter yesterday with a dragon.

At lvl 14 or so I was over at Solstheim and then saw a dragon at Saering's Watch, managed to shoot it once or twice and then got the dragon life bar at the top. It then flow away a bit and into some ruins, couldn't see it but saw the bar decrease until it died. Now I'm back and went to same location to read the word wall (wasn't aware one was there when I was there first time) and on my map it said location was cleared. So happily running towards Saering's Watch and suddenly hear the sound of an upset dragon !

Looking around quickly I saw the dragon and was like, uhmm what is this  .. Anyway, started shooting arrows at it and after only a couple hits the dragon started to dissolve and I got it's soul while it still was very much alive !

Anyone else experience this kind of things ?? I just found it rather amusing so thought I share it with you guys, not everyday you fight a skeleton dragon is it ? LOL

Dragons have always been a little buggy with how they roam around so it doesn't surprise me one bit! It annoys me when you attack one and it flies half way across the landscape to fight a pack of wolves instead...

Hmm this looks good - anyone tried it yet? Much of a difference between this and CBBE or UNP in terms of quality?

It uses CBBE or UNP at it's core depending on which you choose. It's also very good for me as it fixed all my issues :). You can if you don't want nude, select the vanilla improvement, but UNP is highly regarded as one of the best.

Other bits and pieces such as eyes, teeth, hair can be added on top!

I don't believe it modifies Khajiits but that and Argonians can be added in by the beautiful males addition I made to OP

I want to start modding Skyrim as I haven't played it properly for a while and never really played it with mods.

My spec is an i5 4670k, 8GB, 280X. I want the game to look good but I also want it to be smooth. I just want to start with some graphics mods and a few other essential mods. Installing the mods and configuring them seems so confusing though.

The first bit of advice I would give is make a backup of a clean, non modded Skyrim install.

Tuck it away somewhere safe on the hard drive, because you'll eventually do something with mods that will break your install.

It's just so much quicker to delete it and start fresh than trying to figure out what obscure little file got corrupted or deleted.

Nice tip!

What ENB's are you guys using? I've heard that True Vision ENB is good. I was thinking about installing the 2K textures and True Vision ENB along with some other game play mods and starting from there. Would this be a decent idea?
