Damn it... I tried a few mods and my FPS dropped through the floor!

I've disabled everything and now performance is still awful. :( Methinks I'm going to try renaming the ini files for default settings and if that fails I'll have to redownload :(

I think that Nexus Mod Manager isn't quite as "clean" as it appears.

I don't use nexus mod manager :(

It's a bit odd with some mods, like separate components of the same mod, it'll moan about it being the same mod and get confused.

I'm going back to the way it was - something went mental but after a reboot and disabling all the mods it's fine again. I'm redownloading and putting it back to the way it was as that all ran fine tbh. :/

Which is the best mod to use to improve framerate without knackering visuals, is it even possible?
I'm running Skyrim on an I5 at 3.2GHz and 8Gbs of RAM but a weedy ATI HD6450. I'm managing at 22fps but more would be better! :)

Haven't played this game yet am about to but which mods are worth bothering with ? if you were starting fresh now and hadn't played which would you install ?

Install Nexus Mod Manager and save yourself the manual install headaches.
Everyone gets their mods from http://www.skyrimnexus.com now, of course.

The only essential mod is Skyboost r3. It boosts your fps so much it's invaluable.

- No More Blocky Faces is the first graphical mod you should install. It's a bugfix more than an enhancement.
- Glowing Ore Veins is good for miners.
- KenMOD - Time on Loading Screen is just handy. More so for family guys.
- SkyUI is big usability changer. If you play with mouse and keyboard you should try it out.

For SkyUI to work you'll also need the Skyrim Script Extender. (SKSE).

You just pop the files in the same folder as TESV.exe
Make sure Steam is already running.
Start your game by running skse_loader.exe.

Is there a mod to make the gold drops more realistic? Why would a spider have 3 gold pieces? Where would a dragon keep his 160 coins? Why do people leave gold in every single urn in the kingdom? It's stupidly easy to make huge amounts of money anyway, so what's the point? I just want to loot gold from people, chests and occasional storage container.

Thanks :)

Don't forget those chests with Expert/Master level locks... and inside them you find 14 gold and nothing else. I agree though they haven't paid much attention to loot so it turns up in stupid, completely illogical places but I don't think you'll find anything to address it until larger mods come out with the creation kit. Its kinda stupid when you go into ruins full of Draugr that haven't seen a living soul in centuries... and find fresh vegetables in baskets.

Anyway, as this is the mod thread I'll post this:

Balanced Magic. A nice alternative if you don't want to go for Midas Magic (given that it seems very buggy and unfinished atm and still a little unbalanced). It has seperate .esps for each skill so if you want you can just apply the Destruction and Alteration changes to make Destruction more powerful at higher levels and to improve the duration of buffs. Also has 3 versions of optional files to increase combat magic regen, modify the damage/cost effect of dual casting and modify the effect of skill on magicka cost.
