VAR is generally good but the issues come when people try to apply absolutes to subjective matters. Football is a game of contradictions in the rules and as we know with the handball rule, you cannot make a rule for it that works. The context and situation is a huge part of a lot of decisions and making rules just means that referees hands are tied when it comes to making common sense decisions.
Same with other aspects of VAR. Salahs goal should have been disallowed. We have offsides for when a player is deemed to have been interfering with play and the defender played that ball because Salah was there. Common sense dictates that. The rules however don't. In another situation the rule works perfectly fine. Perhaps we need to give referees more leeway to apply common sense to decisions even when the letter of the law disagrees.

The Salah goal has nothing to do with VAR. With or without VAR the Salah goal would have stood last night as the lino determined that the defender has made a deliberate action to play the ball and that resets the offside phase.
The issue is the wording of the rule and I mentioned last night, officials can't guess at the intention of players actions. You either have to change the wording, which will result in legitimate goals being ruled out or you allow officials to start guessing at what defenders intentions were, in which case you'll start getting hugely inconsistent decisions.

I was livid as I nearly backed Leeds to do the comeback at 8/1 a minute before the pen but got distracted, sort of pleased now but I could still see Leeds scoring a couple late on here!
