The England Cricket Thread

That was an absolute disgrace. I really don't know what's going on with this team. Honestly, Bell, Ballance, and Lyth need to go. This is the Ashes and a single good performance marred by a multitude of dismal performances shouldn't mean you keep getting chance after chance. They've had chance after chance, where do you draw the line?

And Cook? So what if he scored a decent score in the first innings, he gave his wicket away and he did the exact same thing in the first test. He's a great batsmen but he can't use a tournament as big as the Ashes to try and regain his form. He needs to step aside for a bit and play county cricket to regain his proper form. At the moment we have about 5 players in the side that just aren't pulling their weight, so you end up with a massive collapse and if Joe Root isn't able to carry the team, like this test, then the whole match is a failure.

Pitiful, pitiful performance today. I just can't believe this team.

Normal England resumed. England to be destroyed the rest of the ashes and lose 4-1

God not you again. I thought we might have a summer without your boring comments ... Golf is on the other side you know. Try that.

Out of interest, how many times did you post during England's win in the first test where everyone agrees they played well?

He does have a point. Without some major changes and a huge fire up their butts, I'm afraid the team that was out in the middle at Lord's stands no chance of raising the Ashes this year. The first test was good but honestly, how much of this loss can you blame on the pitch? England couldn't bowl them out, and they couldn't bat them out either. They just totally underperformed and to be honest, it is shameful.

A collapse of epic proportions, bet they regret celebrating like they had won the ashes after the first test, bunch of idiots.

Pretty much what I was thinking, the way they celebrated after winning the first test was lolworthy at best. 3rd highest defeat for England in ashes history, pretty embarrassing to say the least.

Tbh it was a horrendous loss today, I thought that at least England would have made a stand of some sort but they just collapsed faster than a line of dominos lol. If the pitch was so lifeless then why couldn't England make a decent total like the Aussies did??

Have to give the Aussies credit where credit is due, they played like a team on fire today. Johnson had a good test compared to the first test.

I see that boring **** Willis hasn't let the opportunity to slate England go by, that guy could send a turtle to sleep with his monotonous tone. Mind you I wasn't expecting any different from him lol.

But LOLEngland, a very embarrassing defeat...better play better in the 3rd test otherwise the Aussies will run away with the series.

Evangelion will be a happy Aussie I imagine lol.

I'm not happy about the performance at all believe me, but this guy is relentless. He revels in England losing and ignores it when they win. He was the same the last 3-4 series.

As for the team, Taylor in is a must for me... And you all know who else I would bring in, even of I will be lambasted for suggesting it:pHe should have been there from the start;)

Then again, as discussed before, Ali really shouldn't be batting where he is, so imo the replacements don't necessarily need to be batsman for batsman.

would that person be kp

He's a nob, but I remember the good times too. When they told him to play county and he would be in contention for the squad, then he made that 300+ I thought he would be back tbh.

Just seen Bairstow got a century too. Never been a fan but if he's in form...

Tbh, there was a kind of myth going on(not helped by the new Zealand series) that England were entering the Ashes with a settled team when in fact we had quite a few players new or out of form. If Bell was firing on all cylinders I probably wouldn't be considering KP.

Can't complain. :)

Nice to have the good Johnson back again. Marsh and Nevill proved we don't need Haddin and Watson, which is great news. I'm pretty stoked that our bowlers got so much action out of a flat batting pitch. Hopefully this will leave them fired up for Edgbaston.

England must be missing Pietersen pretty badly right now. Should have kept him...

i agree what he did was wrong, and like everyone else that has ever made a mistake he does deserve a second chance. yeah the fact that they blatantly lied to him about getting back into the squad if he stayed and played county cricket was wrong and yeah if bell was playing well then maybe I wouldnt consider him either but bell isnt and so are 3 or 4 others.

This was pathetic.

As for dropping top order I don't see it happening at all, but it's hard to ignore players like Compton/Hales/Taylor/Carberry right now. Love Roy but it's too early for him.

We do have a poor history of not giving players, especially batsmen enough of a chance, but tbh with a player like Lyth he should have been brought in a lot earlier if they were serious about playing him in the ashes. It would be unfair to him to drop him after basically dropping him in at the deep end... And if he is dropped, I hope they don't write him off.

Personally, I probably would drop Lyth and Bell, maybe for Taylor and Rashid., and seriously consider having Ali open. I very much get a 'Root' vibe from Taylor. I think he might be the kind of player that would do well just thrown in.

^yeah, unfortunately it is pretty pointless talking about KP. As much as I would like it to happen, it isn't even remotely on the cards.

Can anyone explain why Root didn't ground his bat? That must have been the weirdest runout in living memory. Johnson deserves full credit for a magnificent throw, but it wouldn't have meant anything if Root had been safe in his crease. Why did he hesitate?
