The England Cricket Thread

The calmer and (slightly) more composed Brook gone and replaced with the one we've had for the rest of this series. Out cheaply with a half arsed poke at a ball he should have left well alone. Again.

Has there ever been a test team with a lower collective IQ than this England team? As dumb as Brooks was earlier, that is arguably the dumbest dismissal of this series.

Decent score that. Play should be extended a bit to make up for yesterday, gives England a couple of hours to have a go at them and hopefully pick up a couple of quick ones. Hope I'm wrong but difficult to see this England attack taking 20 wickets in this match.

It’s like they join the team and leave their brain at the door. I’ve never seen Smith play like this for Surrey, it’s honestly quite odd.

But I can see him being dropped now to be honest.

Absolutely. It's a mob mentality, they just get caught up in what's happening around them. You don't mind them getting out to very good bowling, Smiths dismissal in particular was bad, but this series they have got out at some of the worst times. Everyone likes exciting cricket but when Starc is rampaging down the track in the 6th over of his spell and its 30 degrees - let him wear himself out, don't be swinging wildly. When its 10 minutes to lunch, hunker down and duck under some of these bouncers. When the next batsman in is Stokes, who has been bowling all day and only sat down an hour ago give him some respite and play some defensive shots and soak up the clock. They've all bought into this bazzball cult like mindset and every innings we are questioning why they are doing the same rotten things and getting the same rotten results.

Smith has had a difficult tour but hes not the only one. I've been watching England come here for 20 years and there's generally always at least one who breaks. Although it looks like a class lads holiday at times, it's a tough place to come and play cricket. More so when you bring the Bazzball arrogance with you.

Smith reaches his ton, and Australia reaches 7 for 504! Outrageous comeback by the plucky underdogs!

Big test to see if this England team has got the minerals to bat out this game or at least the first 20 overs of the new ball.

Yep. I'd like to see Bethell keeping doing what he's doing, not panicking and trying to score faster. That's twice he's taken an edge and it's not carried as he's controlled his hands. Honestly wouldn't mind if he gets to his first 10 runs from 50 balls, as long as he keeps going. He's clearly got the talent, I don't want to see him getting out to an ugly heave early on.
