Brook needs to work on his patience and temperament. But I am not convinced this team is conducive to that. Root seems to be senior enough that he just plays how he wants.
Root gets his century! Amazing scenes!
Has there ever been a test team with a lower collective IQ than this England team? As dumb as Brooks was earlier, that is arguably the dumbest dismissal of this series.
Absolutely. It's a mob mentality, they just get caught up in what's happening around them. You don't mind them getting out to very good bowling, Smiths dismissal in particular was bad, but this series they have got out at some of the worst times. Everyone likes exciting cricket but when Starc is rampaging down the track in the 6th over of his spell and its 30 degrees - let him wear himself out, don't be swinging wildly. When its 10 minutes to lunch, hunker down and duck under some of these bouncers. When the next batsman in is Stokes, who has been bowling all day and only sat down an hour ago give him some respite and play some defensive shots and soak up the clock. They've all bought into this bazzball cult like mindset and every innings we are questioning why they are doing the same rotten things and getting the same rotten results. It’s like they join the team and leave their brain at the door. I’ve never seen Smith play like this for Surrey, it’s honestly quite odd.
But I can see him being dropped now to be honest.
Used up the final review on the night watchman.![]()

Yep. I'd like to see Bethell keeping doing what he's doing, not panicking and trying to score faster. That's twice he's taken an edge and it's not carried as he's controlled his hands. Honestly wouldn't mind if he gets to his first 10 runs from 50 balls, as long as he keeps going. He's clearly got the talent, I don't want to see him getting out to an ugly heave early on.Big test to see if this England team has got the minerals to bat out this game or at least the first 20 overs of the new ball.
