The England Cricket Thread

Rain through to at least lunch! Sad state of affairs that us and the commentators are saying that it's a saviour.

Of all the bowlers in England the 80mph Overton is the one that made the cut, for The Ashes? I'm not having this guy.

I do worry that the selectors picked Overton purely because his first ever Test wicket was Smith. I don't think Woakes has done all that much wrong in this series and whilst Overton has had a decent CC season, I can't say he has necessarily been smashing the door down to get in the team. You want to see people being picked because they're genuinely one of the 11 best available players in the country, and I'm not 100% certain that's the case.

Saw an absolutely ridiculous stat that Smith could get a duck in every one of his next 30 innings and still average over 50... Nuts to think a few years back nobody was certain who was the best of the "Elite 4" test batsmen of Smith, Kohli, Williamson and Root. Now Smith is miles ahead of Kohli and Williamson who are in turn quite a way ahead of Root who is averaging just 27 this year...

Overton gone early-on.

Right Joe, time to show us that you belong amongst the fabled top 4 in the world.

Starc out injured, comes straight back in at 90mph. An awesome athlete.

You can hear a lot of chatter through the stump mics this time - I like it! Not sure if they've changed something...

We should be heading for 3-0 down in the series in all honesty, I think the best we can hope for this test is lots more rain unless Root or someone can knock 150.
