The England Cricket Thread

I think this'll be a theme with the new coach.... We either demolish sides or get completely thrashed. Pretty sure the ECB isn't happy with all these innings defeats though, must be costing a fortune.

Our bowlers are 80mph journeymen. If it's not swinging all over the place we can't take wickets.

First time I've heard Jimmy Anderson described as a journeyman.

The ECB has probably raked in their cash from the TV rights to the series. It will be the grounds that will have the issue with the short games.

Do they get the full TV cash if all the tests are done in 3 days? Either Sky or the ECB are getting done over on just the TV!

I've been watching a fair bit of the Hundred again. I'm still quite conflicted about it.

On the one hand, they are undoubtedly putting on a great entertainment event and they are packing in the crowds, especially kids, for pretty much all the games, even midweek ones. The atmosphere is great, the games are largely competitive. It can only be good for the sport as a whole.

On the other hand, why on earth didn't they do some deal that brought the county clubs in, and not has this absolute farce of the country T20 comp and the Hundred running consecutively? Why not just stick to the T20 format, if people can follow the likes of tennis, they can manage scoring a T20 game...and you don't have the commentators tripping over their words all the time saying 'overs'.

Not related to England cricket team but with the way Shan Masood has been playing, I'm surprised he hasn't been called over to Pakistan squad.

Also looking forward to the Pakistan Vs India game this Sunday.

My biggest complaint about he Hundred is the mess they use for the on screen graphics!

TBH, I've never bothered with watching anything but Test matches and maybe the one day World Cup. I have no interest in the county game, I couldn't tell you one player from Notts, supposedly my team.

However, my nephews who are 6 and 8 absolutely love the whole Hundred thing so its definitely doing its job of attracting kids. Though I guess they do come from a cricket family, at one point back in the day you'd often see me, my brother and dad taking wickets for the same side. Great days.

Ugh yes the graphics are awful.... Every time I turn a game on I have to squint at the screen for a while to figure out what it means.... balls remaining? Balls left? Who's batting? I have no idea how they botched it that badly.

Same with the county game, I've never had much interest in it, even though I drive past the Derbyshire ground on the way to climbing.

Regarding mankad, one thing I think would perhaps improve it is if (unlike other run-outs) you can't be run out off a no ball. Bascially this means that the bowler can't just neglect to release the ball, go way over the crease and then simply just turn around and whip the bails off.

The incident with India, if you watch it the bowler goes WAY past the bowling crease; when she's in the normal position to release the ball Dean is basically still in her crease.
I'm sure you could get loads of mankads by just 'faking' a delivery, the batsman times their run to be when the bowler should be releasing it but they don't and instead go for the non-strikers stumps.
Of course you could argue that the batsman shouldn't be timing their run at all, they should just use the release of the ball as a signal and hence if there is no release, they shouldn't react.
