Public services are controlled by our government not the EU. The EU has very little influence at all on the quality of our public services, if they're going down the toilet then that is the fault of our government not the EU.

I work for a local authority in waste management and pretty much everything we do is drive by the EU. Fortnightly collections, fines for not recycling, recycling targets etc are all driven by EU legislation.

Fair point. The EU agreed framework for improving waste management does have a significant impact on that particular area of public services.

What's weird is that the same government everyone usually moans about like mad is suddenly expected to transform the UK into a utopia once we vote out.

I don't think anybody is expecting sudden sweeping changes, for the better or worse.

Good! See now there's one thing that EU's done for us. :)

Passing he burden of recycling onto the consumer rather than forcing companies over package their goods?

Recycling maybe a more environmental friendly way of getting rid of waste rather than dumping it but how much energy and natural resources are wasted producing packing that that is not required in the first place?

Crisps come in bags yet cereal com in bags and a box.

The consumer ultimately bears the burden for any business expense

They are tackling the over packaging as well, it's not just a one pronged edict

Why does it always have to be someone else's fault?!

Even if you remove unnecessary packaging (which as pointed out they are looking at) it will still be down to people to recycle it. Stop being lazy and recycle that extra box if that's the cereal you like, it takes 2 seconds. Or switch to plenty of other cereals that already come in bags.

Excellent timing

Brussells Officials are planning to present the UK before the EU courts for charging foreign HGV drivers a levy up to £10 a day.

The HGV levy was introduced 2 years ago to help 'level the playing field' for UK hauliers and ensure foreign drivers and UK drivers are treated equally, yet, the EU declare that it is unfair towards foreign drivers, penalizing them for trade within the UK.

Officials refuse to publically comment on the court case until after the EU referendum, believing it may have an impact on the results.

You keep rambling about the past 10 years but you are for Brexit now and if we vote for leave, we have to find new customers for our most important export, services, now. Also now, the demand for services in China is decreasing, which was my point when this exchange started. We don't have good options for our exports, should we leave the EU common market.

You talk as if all our services exports to the EU would immediately stop the day after Brexit. That won't happen, things will carry on as they are for 2 years at the minimum, until a new deal is worked out. Even then, the trajectory (i.e. not just looking at the last 2 years, as you keep doing) is that the third of our services exports that go to the EU currently will decrease (as they have been decreasing) and other places around the world that are growing much more quickly will demand more of our services.

Free trade with China? Are you serious? :D

So you've ignored my quotes from both Cameron and Osborne on wanting to do more business with China. Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Chile, South Korea etc all have free trade deals with China, why couldn't we? Remember the Chinese President's visit to the UK last year?

In the long term, the possibility that China will turn into an important customer for services is real. But, as I said, you want to leave now and right now China is not a good potential customer to replace what we may lose in the EU.

People need to take a long term view in this referendum. You shouldn't vote based on a 2 year backward looking time horizon.

So you are not against the free movement of people?

It's actually pretty low down on my list of reasons to want to leave.

I'd quite like to see electoral reform on the agenda next as well to get rid of the need for tactical voting. Preferably STV.

The EU elections are a PR system are they not? Geographical representatives with a party top up list?
