The Evil Within 2 (Friday 13th October 2017!!!)

Cry of Fear - man the atmosphere in the game was something else.

is cry of fear a lot of jumpscares? (answer in a spoiler perhaps)

yeah fear was great, i really like the emptiness of it, I played it recently again and its so different to modern games being like that its still really eerie

There are a few but it by no means relies on them - it's just the whole game has this real dark, heavy atmosphere that persists through the whole game - I don't know how they managed it but I was constantly on edge throughout the entire game. One of the best horror experiences I've ever had. And it's free too!

I've heard it's good, got it downloaded already, but played the first bit to test it and thought it might be full of jumpscares, which I need to be in a certain mood for.. I'll try it next

I must try Cry of fear, that's the one made as a source mod isn't it?

I agree, the tension in the games you mentioned really takes it to another level. I wasn't overly fond of outlast but loved alien for the most part! SOMA is Great, good story too
Yes it's a source mod and free to download on Steam, see my above post regarding Cry of Fear - has to be tried if you like horror games.

I initially struggled with Outlast, but it was more a combination of frustration, disorientation and terror that almost made it too much to be fun. I had a break from it for a few months and went back it and enjoyed it more on the second visit. I wouldn't let that put you off Outlast 2 by the way, aside from the camera and general run and hide game play mechanics, it's feels quite different that the first - there many different and more open locations which makes the game flow much more. I enjoyed it much, much more that than first and think it's one of the purest horror games made to date - I actually felt like I was the main character in a horror movie!

Loved SOMA too by the way - amazing story and concept!

Yeah the start of the game is a bit strange - in the dark with a camera isn't it? Once you get past the first few minutes, none of the rest of the game is like that.

yeah. well im playing it! How many hours is it do you think?
Ha. Good for you mate. I've got 19 hours clocked up on Steam but I'm slow and my sense of direction tends to fail at times, especially when I'm scared and tend to keep running back to save points after killing something! I would say it will be between 10 and 15 hours for an average player.

I think it varies on how much you do in terms of side stuff too, mine ended at around 13 hours but towards the end I really didn't fancy exploring side missions or objectives. Have seen some get 20-30hrs out of it! Nutters ;)
