The Evil Within

Stiill not sure why the hell I not completed this game yet. I remember being stuck and tonight just out it on for quick play test and got past the part I was stuck first time. Progressed abit more "Within" and this cool set piece happened lol
Also It seem to be running much better than I remember?? AMD got better OpenGL performance out of this with drivers? Might need top start a fresh gameplay on this I just can not remember the story at all.

Good game, could have been better though, the story needed to be more memorable and maybe bit less gory like resident evil.

I am going to be going through some older games I have yet to play on my steam catalogue also now that I have gone from a 1080 to a nano and as there is nothing coming out this year that needs much gpu power that I want to play.

By the end of the year I will likely have played every game I have left any interest in :D

There are many games coming out in 2018/9 I want to play though, going to be a fun but expensive year. Maybe I will try my best and stay 6 months behind the curve and pick stuff up cheap and patched up. But say Resident Evil 2 Remake comes out, I think I would not be able to wait and would buy that day one. Only way is to say I am not buying a new game or graphics card for 12-18 months. That way all the cheap games pay for a large chunk of Navi :)

This game was a complete surprise to me as I wasn't expecting to be so good given it wasn't all that well received. I was gutted when I completed the game and missed playing it for weeks afterwards which is always a sign of a great game for me. I thought the story was pretty cool and that it only gets dumped on because people didn't understand it but if you've ever watched any Asian horror films, the plots do jump around a bit and can be hard to follow compared to Western made movies. The confusion with the plot adds to the general feel of WTF and uneasiness which I feel adds to the experience. The story does become clearer once you play the also quite brilliant DLC episodes. For me, this is what the perfect sequel to Resident Evil 4 would have played like although, in saying that, I'm actually replaying Resident Evil 5 just now and really enjoying it. Yes I know it's not the way Resident Evil should have went, blah, blah, blah but it's still I really fun action horror game and unfairly under rated in my opinion.

I got stuck early on where you need to throw the bottle to distract the butcher. Didn't matter where I threw it, he'd always come running round the back of kiosk to me.

The feeling of utter labour needed to go through the set piece motions to get to that point again killed any enjoyment. Haven't been back

I've heard quite a few people being put off by the first level and the fact that you hobble around after being injured - the fact is the first level is so much different compared to the rest of the game - giving the impression that's it's going to be stealthy hide and seek game in the mould of Outlast but it's only the first level that is like that - it does seem like an odd choice to start the game this way when it doesn't reflect the rest of the game. You can run after the first level too. You should go back to it - it's such a great game - particularly if you enjoyed Resident Evil 4, 5, Revelations, etc.

Can't wait to play this. Loved the first one - it's was like what Resident Evil 6 should have been for me. I'm a big fan of Resident Evil 5 though - almost at the end of my second play through of it just now and really enjoying it. I thought Resident Evil 7 was great but it's clear that franchise is going in a different direction now so hopefully The Evil Within will continue to give me that later Resident Evil type game fix. I'm probably one of the few that hope they keep the 3rd person format for The Evil Within 2 and don't go first person...

Just bought this for 3 quid any tips?
Conserve everything its a tough game at times very unfair you will die a lot like in Dark Souls series!! Also if you use a trainer most break the save game system (it appears to have anti trainer detection) when you need vital upgrades............. enjoy though its a great game especially if you have a recent GPU enable the realtime lighting for fantastic shadows & light FX + 16K textures!!!

Note if you use the ingame debug console you disable achievements & also saving I think so not much use to most people!!

Will save ammo etc early on then! I'm sure 1070 will handle fancy lighting :)

anyone know how to get flawless widescreen working for TEW1?

Just wanna tweak the god awful FOV.

i get the following error message:

"Could not find LetterBoxFix2 injection point, The Evil Within may have updated to a version that is no longer supported.

Try restarting The Evil Within or selecting a different version and re-enable the fix".

cheers

Just tried it there and it's still working for me perfectly - 3440x1440 and no letterbox. All my steam games auto updated so I'll be on the latest version of the game too. Sorry...
