The Evil Within

Needs sign in :p
Do it do it do it ;) as no timescale has been given on when we get the console command & unlocked dev console they have not stated it will be at launch at all. I have tried to explain if you own a 21:9 then forced 2.35.1 gaming is not a problem.......

Not sure if the price has changed but just clicked your link and its showing as £29.98.

Not that I'd pay extra for a steelbook, or trust Zavvi to deliver on time. :)
£24.99 elsewhere without the steelbook I can live without the steelbook somehow & agree zavvi are poor they cancel without warning your orders when they cannot get stock or deliver days later

It is by default but the framerate can be unlocked via console commands - although they say doing this may cause issues.

See: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1508448-the-evil-within-releases-next-week-things-to-know/

The borders/black bars can can also be removed (aspect ratio can be changed) via console commands.

I have stopped supporting devs who lock games at 30fps. Completely fed up pandering to the console crowd. Have £40 in my steam account and this was going to be a def purchase, they can bite me now!

I didn't spend my money to be locked at 30fps with the promise of errors if unlocked.

Shame, as I was really looking forward to this!

I'm sure uncapping it will be fine. Dead rising worked perfectly for me at 60 and the vram for mordor was rubbish.

This is now the problem. Devs have gone from one extreme to the other. Before we had to cope with crappy ports, poor textures etc. Now we have to cope with crappy coding and straight ports over from NG consoles. I understand that cost savings have to be made somehow, but some devs are alienating themselves against PC gamers..

Yeah it does seem like there's really no effort made at all for the pc version and it's an after thought. At least make it fullscreen because monitors are much smaller than TVs so putting borders on them is just silly.

I have to say I am very disappointed, "VERY" I will not be buying a PC game that thinks for one second 30fps is the norm... You ever once played 30fps on a 120hz monitor? its not nice let me tell you.

But they say it can be unlocked in console, but you might have issues. Well thats not good enough either, is it?
Lazy, PC development is what I see here and this will effect your PC sales enough more, then just adding in PC features we expect.

Gutted!

"Shinji Mikami and the team at Tango designed The Evil Within to be played at 30fps and to utilize an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 for all platforms. The team has worked the last four years perfecting the game experience with these settings in mind. For PC players, we'll provide debug commands on how you can alter the framerate and aspect ratio, but these commands and changes are not recommended or supported and we suggest everyone play the game as it was designed and intended for the best experience".

This is a key indicator. So as it's a debug command enabled aspect ratio that means the letterboxing isn't fixed on so those playing on an ultrawide monitor won't get black bars either side. For all intents and purposes we are sorted with this in mind out of the box. Just the fps to unlock from the command line.

Yeah you can unlock the FPS & remove the black borders (which I guess are because nextgen consoles cannot handle the FPS).

I really want to unlock those black borders on release day not way weeks for someone in japan to wake up & smell the coffee!

Mine has shipped today from shopto.net only cost me £23 as I had some reward points left & if you pre-order today you get another £5 off so its only £24.99 until midnight tonight do not hang around if you have not preorder yet as its a 40G-50GB download those 4-5 DVDs will save a lot of time as its faster overall to install from them than download 40-50GB even though the preload is going up soon the Steam price is £34.99 vs £24.99 retail for the same content with the same pre-order DLC  Steam tax at its finest :(.

You have an ultrawide monitor no? You don't need to unlock any borders as you won't see them anyway.
Yep I have ultrawide 34" UM65. The black borders are on ALL versions even PC ultra wide which is why I was concerned as 2.35.1 with black borders on 21:9 is a tiny little letterbox viewport :( so the devconsole command to remove those is the only way to get a fullscreen image on 21:9, 16:9, 16:10 PC displays.

As long as they give us the devconsole unlock codes it will not be a problem but already the steam forums are full of people not understanding this removable 30 FPS lock even though its unlockable to 60 FPS

Bethesda PR are talking rubbish about developers spent 4 years designing for 2.35.1 with black letterbox & 30 FPS thats obviously to fit into console limitations ;) what possible gameplay elements can you put into the black letterbox which will not be an issue on fullscreen!
