The F1 2014 season

Didnt really count the 1997 as it wasnt the whole chasis (and to be honest I had remembered it as vodafone red anyway lol)

There was a pre season one that was all orange, here is a "remake" on a modern chasis which personally looks dead sexy!

As I remember it wasn't a metallic orange either, it wasn't as heavy as that.

Looked them up - there aren't as many photos around as I'd thought (that aren't scale models), but you can seem them in the bottom half of this article.

I think the camera isnt picking the colour up very well, there is a can am and an indy car on the boulevard in orange and they are very bright, not dull at all!

Either way.....I very much doubt a return to orange which is a shame.

-EDIT-

Interesting lunch, lot of work still being done by the sounds of it, certainly no slowing down over this period.

Any dates been released on new car launches?

Most of the major teams (minus Lotus by the sounds of it, given that their finances are so unstable that they still haven't signed an engine deal) will be just before and at around the first Jerez test.

Expect McLaren and Ferrari to have a dedicated launch, but it's becoming increasingly popular to just launch it on the grid of whichever test you appear at first (unless you're intent on doing an HRT/Lola, in which case the first race is fine).

Big talk of McLaren doing a dedicated launch so I would be very very surprised if they just rocked up

Its good but not brilliant imo - too metallic / shiney for me, although that could be just the lighting

(have to admit dont recall ever seeing that version before so thank you)

Santander might just move up as Title sponsors as the McLaren colors are pretty established and theirs will continue it on nicely.

Santander are on their way out. They followed Alonso to McLaren and then jumped ship as much as they could when Alonso went to Ferrari. Although it was Hamilton they had issues with so maybe they might come back round? (In 2007 the Santander advertising in Europe had Alonso and de la Rosa on it, they didn't use Hamiltons image at all).

My blue/yellow guess is Lucozade, as it's the only name to have been prominent recently. It's taken the rear wing spot from Vodafone for quite a few races. But there doesn't seem to be any traction behind any rumours. Infact, there doesn't seem to be any rumours at all, which makes me think there won't be a title sponsor next year, and then maybe something when Honda come along in 2015?

They could just be "McLaren Mercedes", and run in chrome and black like they did in 2006, sticking on logos for any random sponsors that come along.

As much as I'd love to see orange back, I think were all going to be a bit disapointed. After all, this is the team who celebrated 50 years of racing by... um... did they actually do anything to the cars? Was there even a McLaren 50 badge on them?

I thought it was quite well known that Santander were Alonso linked. Presumably Ferrari gets the lions share of their F1 sponsorship budget.

Lucozade could look quite good. Don't F1 teams generally re-design sponsors' logos to fit in with the overal colour scheme of the car anyway?

Yep. McLaren at Monza 2013: http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/mcla-butt-monz-2013-7.jpg

The chrome is Mclarens "thing" at the moment. The Red came from Emirates airlines in 2006 and then Vodafone. Any new sponsor would likely want the red bits turned to whatever their brand colour is.

The chrome is only a hang over of the West livery anyway, before that they were red and white. So there's nothing to stop them redesigning the whole image to fit with a new sponsor, if they pay enough.

They dont play on the red and chrome much though. There entire road car and GT car image is based around black and orange. The red and chrome is limited just to F1. If they go without a title sponsor then we may see something orange, but I think as usual with F1 teams if someone is paying enough they will paint the cars whatever the sponsor wants.

My realistic head says red and chrome, just like now, but with smaller non title sponsors names. Nothing radical, that's not like McLaren.
