The FA CUP Fifth Round ** Spoilers ** [16th - 19th February 2018] + Replays

Yeah and good on him, I feel he isn't getting enough credit for his role in the team.
I agree. He works hard of late.

Some of the pundits were saying that him working so hard and trying to get involved more outside the box was hampering him being an out and out goal scorer however.

He doesn't seem to be able to deliver against the top tier of defences and defenders for me though.

We shall see.. Mourinho's tactics against bigger teams don't exactly advocate creating chances.

Define that good please. He's there or there abouts in quite a lot of the striker stats in the EPL last season. I don't think anyone thinks he's the greatest of all time.
He tends to go missing against the top tier of defences. I don't see him poaching a goal as much as other United strikers of recent times. I certainly don't see him creating a great goal when it really matters against the best.

He's not a big match player. I would loved to be proved wrong of course. But I don't see it happening.

My 2 cents ;)

Bailly should have been given more than 2 minutes, even with it being the last sub but glad to see him back at last after 3 months out

Lukaku was brilliant, esp for the 2nd goal , running the full length of the field and still being able to finish it off - doesn't get enough credit at times.

I'm still not sure whether the VAR decision is correct - if you are going to take 5 minutes to decide whether its offside or not, it 1) firstly cant be clear enough not to rule out the goal 2) surely take an extra 30 seconds to rule if the goal was actually scored by the body part that was offside originally - cant see a kneecap being a significant advantage unless he actually scores with it (and to be honest after how ever many paces, that "advantage" is purely academic)

edit - if there is such a time that the body part directly scores from that particular touch, then its fair enough to rule offside...even with the minute advantage , but tonight was just ludicrous.

edit 2 - generally the team was terrible, passing was atrocious in most areas of the pitch, and no fluidity at all - looks like a random selection of players who have barely played together. McTominay deserves time but really isn't a 1st choice player by a long shot

You could state the above about any of our attackers/midfielders bar perhaps Martial and Sanchez. He's also scored 21 goals so far this season and I also don't know anyone who has ever stated he is a big match player, this is/was no surprise.

Good that we agree :)

Nice draw for the FA, kept Spurs, Chelsea, City and United all apart for some big semis at Wembley!
Can spurs play at Wembley though ? cus semifinal has to be played at neutral ground and spurs are using it for home matches will be interesting to see what fa do about this .

Here are the real VAR lines. Not sure why that wierd one ia doing the rounds.

Incredibly tight. They just need to add in a buffer where it goes with the linesman where it is very tight.

The weird pic was doing the rounds as that's what was shown on BT Sports last night.

And why would you add a buffer? This is not like the predictive element of hawk-eye for LBW's in cricket, where there's an element of doubt. Whether a player is in an offside position or not is a matter of fact, not opinion. Offsides would be like hawk-eye in tennis - no matter how tight the call is, it's either in or out and even if there's only 1mm in it, if umpire/line judge is wrong the decision is overturned. What would be the point in using technology if you're still going to allow wrong decisions to be made?

In cricket there is a similar bias built in because there is doubt on projections. It doesn't have to be like tennis.

Also that is only if the technology is accurate to 1mm in the first place. For balls and lines it is easy. For people it is a lot harder. Rugby is a better comparison.
