The Fashion Thread... personal tastes, musings, and recommendations

I thought this thread was for the lols at first, wool jumpers, crappy shoes and "timeless numbers". I'm 29 and wouldn't be seen dead in half the stuff mentioned in the op.

And conversely, I probably wouldn't be seen dead in the stuff you wear. Horses for courses. :D

Good for you, I'm 24 and mostly wear that stuff. And guess what? It looks good...

OP thanks for this thread, couldn't get anything from TK Maxx but did pick up a couple of merino wool jumpers from House of Frazer.

;)

I think the whole point of this looks is basically buy things that are more time tested, things not looking like a advertising billboard. It isn't about dressing like middle age, great clothes doesn't mean wearing the latest trend or having the latest style.

The other thing is that you need to think so much more what you wearing as an outfit. Think like a girl more when dressing. You see all these girls, nice looking, nice dressed girls, they didn't just throw it on, even when they say so. They thought about what goes with what, colour co-ordinate, the right hat with the right coat, the right shoes with the right dress. As a guy, you should think what shoes go with what jeans, what jacket goes with what colour T-shirt/shirt. Take 5 seconds to look in the mirror before you go out the door.

Also, pay attention to ads more in magazines, pay attention to what looks good and it's not hard to replicate. Also pay attention to the cut, it's really rather important. Some brand cut a lot differently than others for the same style, get the cut that looks good on you, ask for a second opinion in the store.

Shopping can be fun! Lol

Can you guys help me find a coat similar to this but without that price tag? Cheeky I know but I do quite like it and am kinda rubbish at the whole clothes thing :p

Very interesting jacket... too old-fashioned in styling and colour for my tastes, but looks like a nice piece nonetheless. Can't say i've seen one like it before though, and I wouldn't expect to find one anywhere "cheaply", especially considering it is 100% wool and obviously of very good quality. Maybe this is one of those instances where you should pay a bit of money, make an investment, and then have something that will last you years. It looks like it will last a good while. :)

EDIT - Plus with it being a limited edition you can be sure that you'll probably never see another one like it.

A nice wool coat cost around £200 from most label, it doesn't even have to be JW. £250 seems "reasonable" for that, and its not something you wear for a season then throw away. It will lt you for ages and it will be warm.

I care how I dress, but there is caring and then there is being exactly like a woman

But it's only issue if you're one of those type of prats who obsess about how manly they look and act, as though there are invisible eyes watching and judging them every second of every day. All Raymond is saying is that he puts a lot of thought into how he dresses, and he used women as an example as they have been doing it successfully for millenia. It doesn't mean he is a woman.

How I long to be able to splash out more than £100 on a coat :p

I would rather, without hesitation, be a bit metro and conscious of how I look and dress, than not care and be a bit thick. No offence intended.

Amen to that. 90% of the men i know are exactly the same too.

Don't forget grooming either. Of course the fact I use moisturiser to help prevent shaving rash will automatically make me a gay in the likes of rypt's eyes too.
