The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

3D however? whilst it isn't great for all games in certain games it's absolutely fantastic. Left 4 Dead, for example, is seriously enhanced by it. It makes using a melee weapon so much more accurate as distance is much easier to judge when you have a full 3D model running toward you. Because the screen has depth it is easy to see just how long, for an example, the Samurai sword is, making it far easier to time swinging the thing at an incoming zombie.

Plus, 3D is absolutely tons of fun. Throwing a pipe bomb and then standing as close as you can and watching the spray is absolutely hilarious, and things like sparks falling from the overhead power cables are really cool.

It definitely adds another dimension to gaming (pardon the pun) and I really love playing most of my games in 3D now. I didn't bother to play Alan wake, however, because of that horrible warping thing it does. It made me feel quite ill. But, it's a simple matter of not launching Tridef and not putting the glasses on and you have a completely normal desktop set up.

haha yeah i did have nvidia before the 7970 and literally showed off metro 2033 on max settings to about 20 people and they were all like ''oh my god!!!! gaming has moved up a level!!! this is like real life!!! jesus look i can see the dust blowing all around me in front of my eyes i want to touch it!!!!'' The 3d effect on that game is just unlike anything i've seen cinema/3ds/any other 3dvision game. Just incredible.

I dont think i will upgrade until the next gen consoles come out now. Just seems like there is no point ( excluding mega res multi screen set-ups)

games look better now but are not as fun as they were and thats a fact

What you mean is you have grown out of games and only find the cream of the crop exciting now compared to when you were a child filled with wonderment at every new title because it was more fun than school.

Source? I want quantitative evidence, not just some subjective opinion.

Well Counter Strike is still the most played online game on Steam with a peak today of 71,154. That's what? 11 years old now? 12? I'm not sure cos I hate the game but older games are definitely better content-wise and gameplay.

Think of Quake and Half-Life 1 then think of Crysis 1 and erm I'm out.....

If you take away multiplayer which is obviously better now than the days of 56k modem online gaming :D single player games are in general not as good as they used to be IMO for example

shenmue
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI
super mario 64
goldeneye
Deus Ex
metal gear solid
diablo 2
original Fallout
and tons more

How can you ask for quantitative evidence for something which is a subjective opinion?

He doesn't find games as fun now as he did in the past.

That's his subjective opinion and it can't be quantified.

There are no benchmarks for how much fun games are now compared to X number of years ago.

Games aren't worse. Our expectations are greater.

I'm not going to agree with that. My expectations from games are hardly greater. Sure I'd like something different or new once in a while, but I still play games from a decade or more ago and find them just as fun as current games, if not more.

It really depends on the individual games.

I agree to a certain degree as there are many fantastic modern games especially from companies like Valve.

OTH,this is tempered by the recent efforts of EA and their spawn!

****Incoming Diatribe warning****

Instead of the expansion packs we used to get, lets have a billion flipping DLCs which last 10 seconds each. Then after doing all that lets cut content from the full game and..yes you got it..launch it as a DLC!! Then if you don't play the MP,or get all the DLCs or don't buy enough shiny crap lets affect the SINGLE PLAYER part of the game.

****Diatribe ended****

Kepler, too little, too late.

Ati's next gen have been out for months and months, by the time kepler turns up, Ati will have its refresh ready to blow it out of the water, most likely.

Trine 2 did it for me, i've played it over and over in 3D and it still amazes, ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. Turning 3d off during play is like being decapitated.

where's your 580 over 480 %

That isn't relevant for the comparison.

I'll explain, what I have compared is the new generation, and by generation I mean first high end gpu of a die shrink, to the previous generation's last high end.

So essentially GX110 to G(X+1)100.

ie exactly the same as comparing GTX680 to GTX580 in recent generations.

I would still wait until the GTX680 reviews are out to make a final judgement though.

Absolutely but as we near the release date I think it is becoming pretty clear, and increasingly likely, that this is a mid range part overclocked by default and given the 680 moniker only because it can toe to toe with the 7970 and the GK100 for whatever reason isn't making an appearance.
