The Fury(X) Fiji Owners Thread

Third card, same annoying high pitch noise...

On top of that I'm most displeased with the online retailer I've tried (was my first and last order from them) as they tried to sell me the card as new when it wasn't

- External box/packacking damage
- Inside plastic bags containing screws & DVI adapator already opened
- Front cover of the card loose, 100% sure it was taken off by its previous owner to check the pump inside

Is that allowed by UK law or is that an attempt at "fraud"?

100 percent against the law, but they would probably argue it was an accident if your were to go after them for it. Not sure what retailer it is but I wouldn't shop with them again. If their willing to send faulty stock on purpose. Dodgy alert is bright

They seem to have accepted my return/refund question straight away without question so won't make a fuss about it. That shop is definitely on my blacklist though.

So my last hope now relies on OC UK and their new stock, if after that I still get a card with a "dodgy pump" I give up.

Has anyone who has had a whiny card returned it and got a silent one? I think you're the second I've read (not been following that closely I must admit) who has repeatedly got bad ones.

I'm wondering if it's actually just the noise these pumps make, and some people are sensitive to it while others aren't.

Not all variation in hearing range is age related, everyone is different. My mum is very sensitive to high frequency noise and she is in her late 50's.

Any ideas when stock is due? It did say 10th July for a couple of them :(

So tempted to cancel and go 980ti instead, but I already bought the EK Fury water block lol.

As much as I want A fury/X, I just can't justify it. I need 2 of them to play at 4k smoothly according to most things I have seen, and I honestly can't justify spending a minimum of £600 AFTER I sell my current GPU's for 5-20 more FPS :( I can almost max everything I play right now at 60 FPS anyway so... I should be ok for a while.. I guess. What do you guys think?

Get a third. 290.

Ive heard someone, i cant remember where, mention that you need to empty the pump of air getting it into the radiator instead before using the card. Have anyone tried this? Air in a waterpump tend to make some noise. Just a thought.

I did give it a thought but I have some problems with that.
1. Scaling? I know AMD scaling is better than NVIDIA, but is 3 card scaling decent now? Not so long back I remember 3/4 scaling was just terrible
2. Stuttering, I don't notice any stuttering at 4k with my 2 290's atm, its great, however does stutter increase as you put more cards in?
3. CPU overhead, sadly AMD CPU overhead is higher than NVIDIA and I only have an i5, I have a feeling 3 GPU's would bottleneck with an i5 even at 4k, haven't had any problems so far but 64 player BF4 pushes my CPU very high.
4. PSU, I only have an 850W PSU, I think I would need to upgrade to go for 3 290's.

If I need to upgrade to an i7 and a new PSU, then thats like another £250, on top of the cost of the card, I might as well just upgrade to 2 furies lol!

Ugh idk... decisions decisions....

To be honest, it's high but not so high that many could ignore.

It's just at a very different tone to the usual low pitch hum of fan cases & GPU coolers - it's also constant & unrelated to GPU usage.

I'd have been more willing to forgive if it was only during heavy load, but a high pitched whine like your ears popped while browsing is terrible.

Well considering gibbo has a load of fury cards which use the same gpu package as fury x, and i sorta find it hard to believe they're all units that didn't make the fury x cut, im guessing this has a lot more to do with the pump problems.

If the sapphire tri-x cooler can tame the fury and the asus dc 3 then surely enabling the full core wouldn't add much more heat to be dealt with? Its only 512 more shaders and 32 (?) texture units.

How bigs his load though (ooh err:p), he could only have gotten about 30 cards in for all we know, and thats only of one brand out of the 2, as the others non existant.

Well other places have them in stock so seems like a good few are doing the rounds. The guru 3d review has the asus version performing pretty well, though id still be interested in seeing if these are flashable to full fury x. With the 290's you had to have a specific memory type (hynix iirc), obviously its different with the fiji core so presumably they're all identical, could be a simple flash to open the core up.
