The Fury(X) Fiji Owners Thread

I dont think this time around VRMs will be a problem. all the VRMs and Vram plus core is cooled by water..

I'd like to see a VRM temp in gamesmyself, as the review sites only measured them under furmark, and in that ofc they were hot.

Edit: nope, just found tomshardwares review:

We see the consequences of that conservative fan setting in our infrared temperature measurement results. During gaming, the VRMs stay reasonably cool, even though they're only covered by a small heat sink that touches a heat pipe above it. The board hits 60 °C at the slot, meaning the VRM’s heat travels across the PCB under the rubberized back plate.

should i buy a fury x which as for full DX12 but lower performance or keep 290x cf and just replace the faulty card i have?

In my view one more powerful card than 2 in crossfire or sli is the better option. Personally I refuse anything else even if I need to lower settings in the resolutions I play. One card is the better gaming experience overall.

Hmmm, I'm seeing images showing 104c hotspot on the rear of the card.

Yeah I have seen temp gun reading give much higher results and not taking into account how the gpu is transferring the heat.

Point a temp gun at the core and also monitor the core and you see to different results.

edit

Just tested mine core 33c under temp gun and msi afterburner says 40c...

Make of that as you will.

problem is, one fury x is only about 35% faster over a 290x and in 98% of games i play uses cf so i would lose about 60-65% of performance, also im at 4k res so i need as much performance as i can get.

i just don't know what to do.

I would say that depends on your needs. If you do not mind waiting for crossfire profiles to be released then definitely 290x crossfire will be better for now and just wait for 16nm stuff.

However, if you have had your cards for a while and fancy something new in your case, then Fury X is not a bad choice at all. Then again neither is a 980ti. I would love either of those cards in my case, but I just recently got a 295x2 and the new cards for me are a bit expensive for the performance you get.

Maybe wait a bit and grab one in a few months time when they are a little cheaper. By then there will more mature drivers and you will know exactly what you getting.

Edit: Just read your new post. In that case I say stick with what you got unless you fancy a new card :D

To be honest, they should have sent him a card to create a profile before they went out to review - at least that way they could have ended the doubt in the minds of many prospective buyers.

It seems I won't know what to purchase at this rate for at least a month, if I get bored of waiting I'll go with a G1, but I'm still confused that they say it's an 'over-clockers dream', surely they know how much it can be over-clocked?, some information on this would be highly useful.

Hell, if ATI show us it's average potential I'd be willing to pre-order now & wait for MSI to catch up.

Exactly, how do they know it is a overclockers dream when they have not really done anything with it. They even said it is voltage locked...

The temps of the board around the power regs, are an indication of heatsoak, similar to people who make the mistake of replacing an air cooler on and amd system with a water cooler, effectively the the vrms, phases run hotter as there's next to no air flow that the air cooler providied.

It doesn't matter if you have a direct contact heat pipe the heat in that fury thermal picture, it still needs airflow to help it cool.

AMD say to use the latest from Windows update. for Windows 10

But in build 10130, aren't the supplied drivers the 1023.5s?

Whatever they are, you might find placing DLLs from the 1040 drivers (see guru3d thread) in the root directory of a game gives better performance, it certainly does for pCARS (but still has room for further improvement).

im upgrading from a 290 msi twin frozr to the msi fury x, if you want 4k i would say go for it as its about the same a 980ti, if your gaming at 1080p like me at 120hz you will need to buy an active dvi dl to displayport adapter which oc should have forsale today sometime. the fury x gets a little lower fps than the 980ti oc ones but remember its quieter and cooler and should hopefully improve with newer drivers unless you pay more and get a 980ti hybrid

if things works well for you with crossfire and happy with it I find no real reason why not to continue that. Its a though call as normally the fury would be in the ballpark of 290 x2 and I suspect it will be down the line.

Its why I am going Fury as for me I rather buy a more powerful card vs going crossfire.

but a 290 I guess can be had for a decent price so atm the better option in your case.
