The G.E.C.K - Vault Tec component.

OK so as I said it is exciting but not terribly so. I now have the sides of the chassis and the ball screw.



I even got a free half Trigger's broom with the ball screw :D God knows. Any way, yeah. So I need to send that ball screw down to my mate who also has the ground bars for the rails. Hence the cardboard tube there. I am going to pack that later and get it collected on Monday.

So yeah. Still no finish line in sight but at least it is something.
 
The broom is an idea I've seen before. It's sacrificial protection - ie if Evri get hold of your parcel and get 'enthusiastic', the broom should protect the part that's actually valuable. Had similar with items taped to chunks or plastic or wood or even in a piece of plastic pipe. Works well and cheaper than replacing a ball screw that arrives damaged.

So you've really taken the RepRap concept and run with it then :D You need a 4th axis so you can get it to machine its own replacement ball screw ends now!
 
Hah. The ball screw nut holder just arrived too.

Sadly mum’s shower died today (same issue as last time) so I’m waiting for the insurance plumber to arrive. However I’m going to have to jump ship so I can’t sort Ross CNC yet.
 
cant wait to see the final build, cool that you are using the bc250 been wanting to get one myself after seeing a video from eta prime. ive been torn because the steam machine is out soon and I know my mrs wouldn't be happy if I build a third pc for the house
 
I think the Steam machine is going to have serious problems due to the DRAM situation. It may be delayed, or, cost an absolute fortune.

Funny you bumped the thread... I FINALLY remembered to pack up the ball screw and send it over to my mate. So he has all of the parts that need machining now. Fingers crossed in a couple of weeks I should be able to get back on this.
 
Looking forward to you getting the parts back from machining, as that means we'll get some more progress updates. Fantastic build by the way, really love these custom ones.
 
The parts are all done. He doesn't mess around ffs. I was doing some painting (rad and window sill) and by the time I could ask for pics he had packed it all hahaha.

So this should resume after the easier one. Not long I hope ! I am hoping to knock that one out in a week or less.
 
How'd this one come along?

I've picked my self up most the components to build one for my self, just need the psu to be delivered and then can work out how to do the case. Did you print it your self?
 
It’s not printed it’s CNC.

I’m still waiting on upgrading the CNC so I can cut the sides and top and bottom.

Life has gotten in the way…
 
Ah I get you, know the feeling with life on projects like this.

Very cool looking build! Got my board fired up last night and is a very nice pc on a board, does the back heat sink for yours get pretty hot to the touch?
 
Yes it does get warm.

I forgot to order M6 bolts as we beefed things up when making the new parts for the CNC so I’ve ordered those.

Hoping to get the machine upgraded as soon as I come back in a couple of weeks and then finish this one.
 
OK so I should really break my silence.

My mum passed away about a week ago.

She had been poorly for 15 years. Mostly bone problems and etc. Around two years ago she started to become short of breath easy. At the end half of her heart was not working. We knew that. What she did not tell us was that she also had emphysema, COPD, lung scarring and god knows what else. But that was just how she was.

So yeah. I went over about 3 weeks ago and was due to come back after about 4 days. Problem is she was so ill she could not even cook for herself or much else. So I stayed on longer, but on the Tuesday she was so bad I called an ambulance. She passed about a week later very peacefully.

So why am I talking about it? well maybe you knew or didn't but all of my machining stuff and hobby stuff was all there. So I don't have access to it for a while now, as the house needs to be cleared and sold etc. I am, however, bringing it all over here to my flat. I have been cleaning out, clearing out, rearranging etc to set it up in my bedroom. Thankfully about 6 months ago I bought a very nice laptop (2070 max Q, fast CPU, 32gb RAM etc) literally just so I could do her shopping. The old shopping laptop became the CNC laptop as it could no longer update etc. Well that one will now go in the trash and I will use the Omen one I bought. Meaning I can fit what I need into my bedroom without turning it into a workshop. I mean, one needs to sleep and all that sheet.

Obviously this will take time. So don't think I have decided to do one. I just can't do it atm. Soon I hope !
 
I’m OK dude but thanks that means a lot.

Mum had two wishes.

One was for me to be safe after her death. I’m autistic and I don’t do very well in the world. Thankfully that wish was granted in 2018 and I now live in secure housing. With support.

Secondly was that my brother could pack in work ASAP. Mum’s youngest brother died in 2017 at 59 from leukaemia. He was rich though so retired in his 40s so it could have been a lot worse but yeah, my brother isn’t rich. So I granted that wish for her by handing over most of my inheritance to him.

I don’t need much and I don’t want much. I just want to feel safe and I do. So he should be able to retire in about 5 years.

I’m super sad about it all but I am just glad I had her for 52 years. Lucky, even because she was one hell of a woman.

One thing we learned as a family? Never go to bed on bad feelings. You never know when your time is up.

I’m still planning out the hobby room come bedroom. I’ve bought a couple of bits (ok so that’s a huge under statement) so I’ll be back soon.

I have my friends coming next week to pick through the stuff at mums. I needed two of everything given I spent half of my life there, but now I don’t and it’ll only end up in a skip. So most of that is going to our LAN host to keep him up and running.
 
OK small update.

A couple of weeks back I went over to pack my stuff. “Oh it’ll all fit in two large boxes” turned into 7. I’m quite proud of how much I managed to cram in that 2.5x3m room but it then caused another big issue. I simply didn’t have the space to put it when it gets here.

It was a scenario like that where my boiler went bang and I realised I couldn’t even get to it due to bikes that had me panic.

When I moved into my flat I was blessed with a walk in closet. I suppose they thought of using up the space left instead of boarding it off.

Problem was I filled it in a single day storing all of my hifi component boxes and then added several more over the past 7 years.

As such I’ve had to dig them all out and prepare them for buggering off. IE chop them into small pieces and have like, four boxes to take to the dumpster instead of 15. And no, I’m not joking.

I’ve got a local lad who is very fit (delivers my groceries) who is going to take it all down.

Once that’s done I can sort bringing all the stuff over.

It’s funny because I boasted to my support worker I was gong to bring the CNC home only to move it several feet and realise how sodding heavy it is. Harumph. Being old sucks.

Good bit is it’s all now packed. Can’t wait to get this going again.

Ah yes, the discarding of stuff you will never need again...until two days after you've irretrievably got rid of it, of course! I know where you're at with the crates of stuff. I took 32 crates (assorted sizes though, some quite small for heavy items) out of the workshop and I was maybe 2/3 of the way there. The lathe will be a 3-man lift too as it weighs 15 stone. Hey, if I'm feeling generous, I might even unbolt it from the workbench before they try and lift! :cry: Yeah, you could lift that weight with two people that aren't wimps, I know...but the shape of the head end makes that almost impossible without damaging either the lathe or the carrier!
It'll be good to get finalised and settled...I feel you there too. Also on the getting old bit....just don't tell the machinists as they're all older than I am and likely to tell me about whippersnappers and stuff! :eek:
