The Godfather - graphically underwhelming

Well to be fair there isn't an killer app for the 360 yet is there?

All just updated versions with prettier graphics. I think Oblivion and Ghost Recon will change all that soon :).

Ghost Recon is already out, and it is a killer app, oblivion next week. I wonder if the 360 version of godfather will be a port or have its own version.

Well done, you win the award for the most incorrect post of the day.

So you haven't seen people buy a console, play it for a few weeks then never see it again?

I know plenty of people who bought consoles and weeks later sold them or just shot them away in a cupboard.

And thanks for the positive reply.

The thing is I wouldn't really class Oblivion as a killer XB360 app, because it's available on other formats like PC. Likewise Xbox Live, while commendable on the console front, pales into comparison to what you can do online with a PC.

Anyway before I risk stirring up another pc vs xb360 debate, I'd just like to say that Godfather is definitely a game I'm looking forward to due to the dynamic campaign aspect. I was somewhat underwhelmed by Mafia given all the hype so hopefully this should fix the flaws and keep me entertained for a couple of weeks.

I dont want to start one either but online gaming on the 360 is a dream compared to the pc. Everything is logged, all your friends are there, you can see what they are playing, invite them to play the game your playing, its seamless.

I can see why that would appeal to some, but hardly any of my friends are into online gaming and I'd imagine it's not vastly superior to PC options such as X-fire or whatever. There's nothing in xbox-live which makes me feel like I'm missing out compared to what you can do with a PC and an internet connection - I'd say that customisation and freedom is one of the killer apps for PC.

Does indeed look like major suckage. What a waste of a licence! But yeah those gfx look like a first gen ps2 game with some aa.

Aye, I have seen people do that, but you said that 70% of people who bought the Xbox 360 did so for the graphics, which is completely incorrect.

After seeing that some of you think that the graphics are OK I have gone back to check the ign screenshots and hi-res screens from other sources and I have to admit that I was wrong. The graphics are not just underwhelming they are just awful. I have not seen such low res textures for ages. Mafia looks sharp and vibrant in comparison. Just look at the cars - they are as dull as the roads they drive on.

I hear what you are saying, graphics are not everything, but I know I would rather have a good attractive game rather than a good ugly game.

Do not get me wrong I would buy Mafia if I heard glowing reviews concerning gameplay and story but untill that happens I have not yet been convinced to part with my cash.

Well, i've played both the PS2 and PC version of The Godfather and to be honest, the graphics are the least of your worries in regard to the PC version. As it has already been mentioned, The Godfather is a console game, and as such the controls are absolutely awful on the PC version (unless you have a gamepad).

As for the graphics, they are better on the PC than on the PS2 (and i only have GeForce4 Ti4200) but they're certainly nothing to get excited about.

The city probably isn't any larger than say GTA:SA, but they're lots and lots buildings that you go into, which might explain the poor textures and such.

Cheers.

I had a blast on the PC version and it was shocking. The graphics were well below par and I was running it at 1600x1200 with full aa and af (shows how limited they are if my pc will run that sort of res). The control system is a direct port from the console and it was clunky and awkward.. I have a mouse, I should be able to free look and attack without having to lock onto things to target them. The gameplay I found was boring and there wasn't enough freedom, it kept telling me I was leaving mission areas.

I gave up and uninstalled it within the hour.. Could have been so much better:(

Hmm, from that, sounds restrictive and badly designed.

Ill get my copy through in a day or two, give it a bash.

Be a shame if it was rubbish, ive been waiting since Jan 2005 (or around about when it was announced, been looking forward to it very much.....)

We shall see. :(

Ive been playing it for a couple of days on the pc.Agree with the graphics, but i am enjoying the game even so.Not too keen on the controls though on the keyboard.Might have to try a gamepad with it.

There is a lot of talk about people having played this already, days before release. I thought that people had to prove they had a legit copy before such talk when a game isn't officially released?

My copy has been shipped as of today. I've read IGN's review and they do mention that a lot of the city looks the same, except for the individual buildings that you can take over. The control system is also slightly hit and miss (more so for close combat situations) but in general it's ok.

So many games that I had high expectations for are turning out to be disappointing – Commandos & Ravenshield. At least I know Oblivion is going to be brilliant and GRAW should be very good. Here’s hoping that Pray and Alan Wake will be up to expectations.

Ok chaps, post your character

here is mine

Graphics are not that bad but could be better. Game is a lot like GTA, it feels like it's been ripped from GTA. If you think you can complete the game in 8 hours your wrong, this game is extremely long. The best part about the game is being able to take control of businesses, you can walk into places like bakers, cigarette shops, and even Banks and then demand protection money out of them, the more you push them the more money they cough up but if you push them too far they won't give you anything. Bad thing is there is only about 8 types of vehicles to drive :(, overall I am liking the game but it does not compare to MAFIA, MAFIA is still a way better game.
