The Grand Tour

Alternative way to look at that is that's 60 support staff Amazon are paying that otherwise may have been unemployed or sat on furlough / government support measures for a few months.

Well I suppose that is something and of course Clarkson and the other two would need their millions otherwise how could they survive????? Not sure how much per show the Grand Tour deal is but it was recorded Clarkson got £160m in the deal

I bet he works a lot more than the average footballer though.

Probably but thats only cause he is doing several other projects as well like who wants to be a millionaire, his farm, etc.

He was on £12m a year when doing top gear and clearly there was a lot more "work" involved in that for less money. Plus his production company made a "surplus of £28m" at the end of top gear and he got all of that as well.

To be fair, if he was just filming 3 or so specials for Grand Tour each year he would be working a lot less than footballers.

Not really all that concerned how much Amazon felt they wanted to throw at Clarkson and Co, that's up to them.

I do think it's better that companies like Amazon are spending a bit of their cash keeping the production people in work though, even on 'the worst Grand Tour episode ever' - it's better than them being out of work and/or on government COVID subsidies, along with however much money they were spending along the way at businesses that'd no doubt had huge downturns in trade for a good while.

So no, it isn't anywhere near the best they've ever done but I certainly think it's better that they did it rather than cancel entirely.

Without reading through the last couple of pages, can someone explain the ending please.

Was alright, nothing special, some moments made me chuckle like captain slow opening his caravan door.

I keep seeing people say this but I couldn't help but notice how obvious and scripted that part was. As James was walking up to the caravan the water was already bellowing out bottom of door and onto him before he does the obvious for the setup and got washed away with the rest of it. I mean yeah, it's never not funny seeing people fall over but it loses that power when it is so obviously set up. Seen better attempts for the cash on You've Been Framed.

Overall a rather pointless episode with little actually happening, most of it was just some mish-mash reenactment of previous ideas, scenes and themes all felt out of place. There was nothing actually tying the episode together or made any sense in what they were trying to do. Also they completely glossed over the best part of their drive, I'm assuming as it was because they never actually done it, but the Isle of Skye was a huge missed opportunity given the lack of actual driving content beyond what the show has become. I keep giving it a chance each time but it just doesn't deliver the same quality of content anymore and as others have said there are many low production content on YouTube now doing it a lot better. Whilst it has always had an element of scripting I think what it has lost is that honesty that you get from many of the YT creators, it looks and feels like a chore, a job for them and the creators now simply as a means to pick up their cheques.

I’m 99% sure that bit was CGI/aftereffects and James was rotoscoped/composited onto the shot. Look at it frame by frame. There’s multiple weirdness about it.
