Poor James May

Eh, he'll be fine. He's done a good job of building a career away from Clarkson already, and if it does go belly up he'll be up living a luxury retirement on the fat wads he's already made. Poor lad.

But he only exists because of Clarkson and Top gear and he made a decent career by association.

That's not really true. May had a successful career before he joined old-new-Top Gear with Clarkson and I'd argue he's also jointly responsible for the success of that Top Gear with Clarkson - not to the same level, but he's hardly some hanger on. Without Top Gear/Clarkson, he'd doubtless be less of a celebrity and less rich, but I think he'd have done pretty well for himself regardless.

I think Clarkson knows it is and that's why he's made a recent grovelling apology which Harry and Meghan have not accepted which also makes them look prats.
They could have done the decent thing and accepted and sat on that high horse.

Clarkson wrote a column about how he viscerally hates Meghan, why on Earth would Harry and Meghan accept an apology about that? If someone wrote a newspaper column about how much they hated your wife and wanted to see her publicly humiliated would you accept an apology saying they worded their statement of hatred poorly? Come on.

Not fussed about GT but I enjoyed Clarksons farm so it'll be a shame if that goes

I'm the same. I don't think many people give a **** about his comments on Meghan, whilst crude they weren't exactly racist etc. I hope it hits Amazon in the pocket, it's basically cancel culture at it's finest otherwise.

Why? I think his travel series is superb and one of the best programs on TV. Do more of them i say.

Loved both his travel series. I guess it depends whether he is in solidarity with Clarkson and resigns from Amazon to make a point.

Way to make a stand if the Meghan comments really were the catalyst. "We're going to stop airing new content with Clarkson in it. At some point in the next 24 months... Maybe longer if we want to eek out the remaining Grand Tour specials"

TBH there wasn't much left in the Grand Tour. Don't get me wrong, I still love the show, but to put on those epic scale shows must take a toll on the presenters and they aren't exactly spring chickens anymore.

Clarksons farm is excellent, if only to show how ridiculous farming can be (obviously with the intensity turned up to 11 for entertainment value) but once he's dipped his toe into all the aspects of farming the appeal will start to fade away. "In today's episode I analyse soil samples and plan my crop rotation" doesn't have quite the same appeal as screwing up on a massive scale :D

I’m sure he was doing alright before Topgear but you cannot argue that he did considerably better once he was a part of it, the same can be said of Hammond.
Clarkson was without a doubt the frontman, like Freddie Mercury was for Queen. May like his namesake Brian May were no doubt accomplished before they joined Queen or Topgear, but when you think of Brian or James May you think Queen or Topgear, when you think of Queen or Topgear you think of Freddie or Clarkson.

As did I.

You said "he only exists because of Clarkson and Top gear and he made a decent career by association". Neither of those things are true. Sure, he has been much more successful because of Top Gear and Clarkson but he wasn't nothing beforehand and he didn't make his career "by association" he was a significant part of the success of old-new-Top Gear.

In terms of being a household name he didn’t exist beforehand, he became a household name off the back of Topgear of which Clarkson was the frontman. No Topgear, no James May cars of the people ect.

Surely James is going to retire soon anyway. His health is hardly the best and the shaking is getting worse by the year to the point its effecting his work. Part of me thinks this was all planned and nothing to do with Clarksons comments. Its just as excuse for them to step back and slowly moving into retirement which they would have done with or without Clarkson's comments.
