The Grand Tour

Would have thought UK/US would be the biggest market.

They're about to open up to 200 countries, so considering only 3 countries in the world aren't metric (not including the UK with our pathetic mashup - which we need to end asap and switch fully metric) then I'm not surprised the pressure was towards kph. However, they still mentioned miles per hour quite a few times, it just seems like some of the cars they had were displaying in kph.

One of those three countries has 360 million people in it and the highest market penetration of streaming customers in the world...

I can't see how? I've tried from the Amazon apps and also on chrome logged in. All I get is it starting to stream, no download link anywhere...

There's a huge download symbol alongside the title in the Amazon video app, that'll download direct to phone

Just watched, pretty good I thought. Didnt really find any of it cringeworthy.

Got a free month on Amazon, wont be subscribing after that though.

Finally watched it last night, thought it was great except for the studio tent part, but I think the main issue was the jeering American crowd rather than the scripting/show itself. The tent segment next episode will show whether its going to be better or not.

Cinematography was fantastic as always.

I watched this on Friday evening via the Amazon Video app on an iPad streamed via Apple TV to my 1080p TV.

My thoughts:

Likes:
- Good to see the boys back again
- Fantastic image quality (even in HD) and great filming
- The intro with all the Mustangs and all cars in the desert was excellent (although I’d not seen those particular Mustangs before – it would have been good to hear just a little about them)
- No issues with streaming etc. The technical side worked well.

Dislikes
- The humour (in fact almost all the humour) felt a bit forced. I know Clarkson writes and rewrites the scripts but it felt this time that this wasn’t quite right
- The Holy Trinity segment went on a bit without enough technical detail (see Chris Harris for a version suitable for petrol-heads)
- Most of the stuff in the tents was cringeworthy unfortunately. The ‘brain crash’ bit was awful, as was the celebrity deaths.
- The new track doesn’t quite seem up to the task vs Dunsfold. I’m guessing they were in a position where they needed to scrape the barrel to find somewhere new and different.
- The jibes at the BBC were childish. I’d hope they could have grown up and got over this. Perhaps they will after the first episode.

The next episode has much less car-content so it will be interesting to see how that fares.
