The Grand Tour

now that they have internationalised the show it doesn't work quite so well.

Essentially this. It's been Americanised, or at least the humour has. And why wouldn't you. You're an American company, spending millions on a show with your biggest, most easily accessible audience on your doorstep.

It's not terrible, it's just not what it was.

Seeing as I just got Amazon prime, using the 30 day free trial. Thought I'd watch the first 2 episodes of the grand tour.

First episode I thought was pretty damn good, loved the mcLaren p1, Porsche 818 and laferrari races. Thought was a pretty good part of the show, wasn't too keen on that fat American bloke driving the m2 on the test track.

2nd episode was dire tbh, didn't enjoy it as much as the first one. The army bit was far too long and boring for my liking. Also the celebrity brain clash is just plain stupid, first episode you had Renner falling to his death then another guy being attacked by a snake then Vorderman collapsing :/. 2nd episode had Charlize Theron being nailed to death by a lion...again cringeworthy.

Not sure where or what they are trying to do with this show, it seems like a mess ie trying to be like top gear but also trying to be hip and cool.

I'll carry on watching it and hope that it gets better as the 2nd episode was dire to say the least.

Have to agree with the above. Thought the first episode was a brilliant return for the 3; very enjoyable, minus the celebrity death bit which didn't seem that funny? However I was very disappointed with the second episode. The humour felt very scripted and the special forces thing was boring. Roll on episode 3!

Just a heads up for anyone else who watches in 4K HDR, there seems to be a bug in the Amazon app on Samsung Tv's (8000 series atleast).

If you select The Grand Tour straight from the splash page, it takes you to a Ultra Hd version, but not HDR! it doesn't say anything about it and when playing it's not HDR.

If you go to the specific Ultra Hd 4K section on the app, and then select The Grand Tour, then it says it's HDR, and when playing it clearly states it's now plying in HDR..

Odd bug, maybe tv specific, haven't tried the app on pc or xbox but worth keeping an eye out for.

Doing it on my new LG TV too!

Thought the opposite, ep 1 seemed a bit nervy/ getting going again. Ep 2 although heavily scripted - was amusing and back to their stupid behavior.

I thought the second episode was absolutely side splitting funny. I can't remember the last time I laughed so much. I guess I just love that kind of comedy.

I enjoyed the first episode other than the crowd fighting part and the dead celebrities.

I managed to watch the vulcan bit one night and had to go do something, decided to finish it over dinner last night and was pretty disappointed. Funny the first time, maybe the second time but it was done to death.

I prefer some more factual reviews about cars the way Chris Harris does and the proper top gear challenges.

I hope we do see some car challenges, etc. (and decent ones) but it seems to be going more towards an entertainment show than the old TG direction.

I enjoyed both episodes but could see how some might not.

Looking forward to any challenges though if they get some of those in (hopefully!) :)

The dune buggy challenge looks amazing.
I hope the celebrity death bit dies, but if not it'll be out of the next season, they've said this season is a bit of an experiment.

I've no issue in theory with it going towards an entertainment show, but the presenters aren't actors and it shows. The script is weak and none of them have the comic timing to save it - the natural banter between them was good but trying to do that on demand just doesn't work. Added to that, the humour has always been a bit puerile but now it's puerile and stupid.

Such a shame as episode 1 had potential minus a couple of bits. We ended up fast forwarding the army bit as it was cringeworthy. Sadly that meant the 10 minute Vulcan section was it in terms of decent content.

It's clear none of the producers have the balls to tell them when something is rubbish.

Very well summed up. It's just not entertaining enough to be an entertainment show IMO. It's a tired format that clearly even an injection of a massive amount of money couldn't save. I thought the first episode had some really good bits, but this second one is a total cringe-fest (other than the Vulcan bit).
