The Grand Tour

It's always been a car based entertainment show whereas large chunks of episode 2 had next to no car content at all.

They did warn people about that in the first episode though to be fair.

I think they also said Barbados was an episode without much car content in it either.

Not a great episode, but not horrific I guess. Like others I'd like more car content overall. The Spec Ops bit dragged on, but on the other hand - at least there wasn't 20 minutes of a SIARPC guest trying to sell their latest film.

I've no issue in theory with it going towards an entertainment show, but the presenters aren't actors and it shows. The script is weak and none of them have the comic timing to save it - the natural banter between them was good but trying to do that on demand just doesn't work. Added to that, the humour has always been a bit puerile but now it's puerile and stupid.

Such a shame as episode 1 had potential minus a couple of bits. We ended up fast forwarding the army bit as it was cringeworthy. Sadly that meant the 10 minute Vulcan section was it in terms of decent content.

It's clear none of the producers have the balls to tell them when something is rubbish.

I have to agree with this too.

They should stick to the same format that they used for their special episodes.

Some of the Top Gear specials were absolute classic, buying a cheap banger in Africa and having to navigate some of the terrain, literally some of the roads were causing the cars to fall apart.

They also had a Middle East special where they had to get their cars across the desert and came up with some stupid yet hilarious designs.

There is the clip they keep showing of a future episode where James May is in some strange car that looks like it's made out of bricks, and is sinking into the water. Perhaps we'll see if that holds some entertainment.

This is the kind of thing I expected every episode to be, or perhaps i misinterpreted all the hype.

Not even necessarily the super outlandish challenges like the above but stuff like racing the bullet train or racing the royal mail or finding the best driving road in xxx country etc..

The problem is, if they do anything like what was in top gear, BBC will screw them over, and this is the problem, we aren't going to see anything like they were on Top Gear, My favourite part of Top Gear were the challenges, three cars, driving through different countries, the races, and i don't think we'll see any of this on TGT, which is a shame, as that's what they were best at imo.

The boys and Amazon really need to pull something out of the bag for this series now imo, because if it carries on like Ep 2, a lot of people will simply stop watching, even more so with it being subscription based too. I actually think i'd rather watch top gear (albeit) without Chris Evans now.

I doubt BBC can claim a copyright on "3 blokes driving cheap bangers through a remote country".

If that were possible, the creators of the Mongol Rally should sue BBC. Some of my school mates did the Mongol Rally in an old ambulance they bought for about 50p. Sounds very Top Gear esque but this was before Top Gear drove lorries across various countries.

Just watched the second episode, and thought it was brilliant, i was absolutely crying when he kept getting shot by the sniper, and he shot the Queen in the back of the head :D :D :D

I guess they do need to be careful - there are some minor changes relating to their tasks... no more envelopes from nameless 'producers' telling them what to do but instead they mention Andy Wilman and state he told them to go do something etc...

Though the American is a bit cringworthy they did need a racing driver and again maybe they do have to make a slight change there and not use another anonymous one etc..

I'm not sure why every episode has to be some epic montage of fantastic cars with cinematic style editing in order to get people's approval?

There were hundreds and hundreds of distinctly average old Top Gear episodes made - see the dave repeats. The epic stuff should just be for special episodes.

I liked episode 2. It was not as good as episode 1, but I didn't expect it to be given the cars they had on episode 1.

I preferred ep2 over ep1 as I am not much of a car guy I liked Top Gear for the entertainment, dont get me wrong I can appreciate how awesome the cars were in EP1, but if if was all like that I would turn off.

Though I do have a question about the Vulkan bit, on the old TG they had to test that on some F1 track in the middle east as it was too loud for the UK, but Grand Tour managed to test it in the UK, any ideas why?

Episode 2 was a load of crap. How anyone found the repetitiveness funny I have no idea. It was just annoying. I think it's actually worse than what Top Gear used to be.

Given the interview with the exec producer a few pages back, I think it's fair to assume that the forthcoming episodes are going to be all over the place.

Testing new ideas etc before seeing the feedback they generate seems to be the idea of season 1.

I think if you've seen Edge of Tomorrow the army bit made more sense, but it did go on too long.

Now Button is retired maybe they can get him to be the racing driver? He seemed pretty good on Top Gear!
