The great 30-70 thread

Using the highly accurate onboard computer stopwatch, I timed mine at 8 seconds.

Hurrah, it's probably slower than that cos I doubt 60mph indicated is really 60mph.

You were suppost to go to 70 :p

Not tried mine still, my morning / evening commute is somewhat slow :(

I'll try going the long way to work tomorrow if I have time

I did actually go to 70, can't quite fathom why I said 60 :p

I felt a right chump slowing down to 30 and then stamping on the throttle on the inside lane of the A38 though, good job it was quiet!

"why we're you going so slow sir"

"sorry officer, the forums made me do it"

"ah, the forums?"

"yes, the forums"

"ok, sonny, you better be on your way, dont want to hold up the other forumites with yout 30-70 times now"

:D

i seem to keep having a go at 20-40s and 60-80s, but for most of you guys it would be too quick to measure :p

I'll give this a try tomorrow, but will probably be inaccurate as I'll be using the 1 Potato 2 Potato method.

Just for the record some speedos do actually read pretty accurately. When I had a a meeting with the boys in blue last September my indicated speed of 94mph was only 1mph over what their gun said. Quite possible that Gibbos speedo is accurate just he can't count ;)

I videod 7 seconds in 205 GTI 1.9 in 3rd gear. 2nd gear feels a lot better, but runs out at 60mph.

Will try this tomorrow, 3rd might be slow to pick up since 30 in 3rd is very low revs and things don't start moving till 3.5k and pulls nice upto 7k

I can't find any figures on mine but I've roughly timed it at somewhere between 7 and 8 seconds in 3rd, but ideally I'd change up to 4th before then anyway. It's a Seat Leon TDI 130 SE if you don't know.

timed mine on a slip road on the way back from work a minute ago.

30mph off boost in 3rd it took 3.5 potatoes to get to 70mph

my speedo under reads by 1mph at 80mph & my timing is clearly spot on :D

Just tried this in the cavalier on the way home from work....

Rolling steadily at 30, then flooring in 3rd and I got to 70 after about 8 seconds.

If I cheat and use 2nd, then change quickly into 3rd at about 65mph (near enough the redline as it'll go really), that comes down to a fraction under 7 seconds.

I'm quite impressed for a bog standard cavalier....especially given it's on almost 130,000k at the moment, and definately isn't pulling as hard as it was 30k miles ago.
