The GT-R has a new stable mate!

Ex-airline pilot, now a trainee trauma surgeon IIRC.

Just curious but does it not take years of college, training then experience as a co-pilot etc before you become an airline pilot. Then 10-14 years college, med school, general residency, and trauma before you can become a trauma surgeon? Thats two hefty careers to have by 29.

As I said, If I Remember Correctly :)

I don't know what level Dave was as a pilot, or where he is in his Medical career - or even if that's the case :)

Slight difference in running costs, purchase costs and sanity requirements :)

Veyrons are for those with more money than sense, hence no one can shift them on ;)

Read a great article about them the other day.

It was taking about investors deciding old cars are sound money ourdays....

From a financial point of view most prefer spending big money on classic makes and spend a few k per year with the upkeep, rather than blow money on a Veyron and spend large sums keeping the thing in working order.

Well, he states it in his About section of his profile :)

If I recall he's still in medical school, last time this discussion came up.

Nice. However, Im more interested in how this all came about..!?

His father is a big time property magnet, he's not come from nothing to being an airline pilot and Dr in training, not trying to pee on the bonfire but I don't want people believing the myth that you can come from nothing, get a job as a Pilot or Doctor and suddenly be buying super cars left and right on a Dr's salary after a couple of years of having a healthy wage.

It's just not how the real world works, plenty of Dr's from working class backgrounds are earning a decent wage but no where near enough to be able to do the kind of Super car shopping, and a lot of airline pilots are earning a relatively low wage in comparison.

Iceman was born into a wealthy family and has come out a seemingly reasonable and down to earth guy, that cannot be held against him and he should not be criticised for that.

is this were you purchased the beast from?

I do like that interior colour combination.

if you did buy it from there, did you not fancy the red one? or did you prefer the black one?

Yes that's the place. This one was very highly optioned with a lot of the carbon fiber parts that we wanted. It's actually a metallic black with red flecks in it, I'll get some better pics soon so you can see the color properly.

How long till you try out a veyron? Another awesome purchase!

WAY out of my price range, so basically never :p

I'll post up a proper review with better pics and my rationale for why we chose it when I get a little free time.

Interesting to know, and I 100% agree with you on the last point :).

A nice collection gets even nicer.. congrats!

Just curious though, I know leasing is much bigger in the states than the UK.. Isnt it a better proposition to lease these cars? I know you said the 500 was a lease, but not the others?

Enjoy and share more details.

cheers

Fingers crossed :)
There is easy money in buying and flipping new marques (I know someone on their third Aventador already, roadster too) however for longer term investments I think key classics are the only way forward in car terms.

Just look at the 288 GTO, following the 250 GTO.. if that gives any indication as to how the F40 will perform I'll be happy getting paid to drive it as Enzo intended!

Let me take the time to answer a few of the questions here then.

You are correct, my Father has done very well for himself but is certainly not in the league of purchasing private jets etc. I didn't grow up wealthy, we lived well but not like myself or my parents do now, that only really came when I was in my late teens and while I lived well, I certainly didn't get handed everything - if you recall, I started with a Peugeot 306!

I made a lot of money in professional gaming back when I was 16/17 as well as from my mountain biking. I worked for OcUK for a little bit while at the same time I was a director for Bit-Tech before following some other business ventures and investments that ended up being rather lucrative.

I became a commercial pilot after selling out of those businesses and got really into aerobatic flying. I flew private jets for a few different people but found the whole career to be rather lacking in fulfillment (personally) so decided to pursue something I'd considered back when I was 18- medicine. I can be quite honest and tell you at 18-22 I wasn't interested in spending that much time in school any more but I've matured now and realize where my true calling lies. I'm currently still in school but I still maintain a salary from my consulting companies and automobile paint protection films.

I'm married to a wonderful woman who understands what it means to be successful and driven, as she herself is at the pinnacle of her field. I prioritize what I want out of life and work as hard as I possibly can - and yes, I can't for a moment discredit that if it weren't for my parents' support and financial assistance, that things may not have progressed as quickly as they have.

For what it's worth, a doctor in the US, particularly in the field I'm going into (Interventional Radiology) will earn significantly more than in the UK, it's just the way the industry works out here. Starting salary for some specialties is around $450-500k with others reaching easily up to the $900k+ range.

Surround yourself with the right people, work every day as if you needed the money to eat that night and just don't take no for an answer. My Father always said that there's no such thing as luck, he said you make your own luck and it's something I've kept in mind every day - if you do things right, good things will happen.

Again, the query was in relation to the purchase itself. Not his personal lifestyle lol.
