The GTR is dead! Long live the cryptolambo!

That is a nice bit of reverse engineering. Would there be a market for those if you sold them independently, or are the likely hassles not worth it ?

I doubt its worth the aggro, companies like Hill engineering with their own cnc machine can bosh them out at a profit for £25 each (the stainless material cost is £8 or so) but as I have to subcontract the cnc work it means the actual cost to me even on a large run ends up at ~£20 a pop.

If there was somewhere that did cnc time by the hour and I could provide the materials, probably a tidy profit there but likewise a lot of aggro for not much profit.

Hey all!

So today was prime top down lambo weather, and I took advantage.

But the one thing I really wanted to share was the color... yes.. yellow... but what makes the Giallo Midas special is when the sun hits it.

Most pictures, youll see the "yellow" lambo. Eg

i.php

But when the sun hits it at the right angle, you get incredible, absolutely incredible metallic colors shine through. Trying to capture them on camera is insanely difficult, and even compared to these, in person its 10x better.

When it was in full sun earlier, had people wandering up the street and commenting how incredible it looks. I can not wait to line up with @Gibbo on a sunny day for the photo opportunities.

What size pipework is it? If it's 3" I've got a spare clamp in my garage that I could take some measurements of to compare

2.5 inch but it flutes out to 3 inch on the joins. I believe the reason vbands dont work is the seal is made between the neck of the pipe and the clamp, opposed to the 2 faces being flatted against each other like on a vband.

Yea theres some condensation in there, have yet to get a spanner into the back of it to let it air out though, maybe a job tomorrow if the weather is as nice.

Has it been in there since you had it. Could be an older seal now not doing a good job?

Yea, its a common issue, usually an oring that just needs replacing.

I blew a reverse light bulb leaving water ingress in the rear collection :( (not quite sure how it happened but it was working before).

Theres no sitting water, its just some condensation in the unit. Airing it out and replacing the orings will sort it.

Nothing much to report, new zorst should be here within a week or so woot!

In the meantime, heatwraped the decat pipes, will attempt, if possible, to heatwrap the manifold on the car when its all open, but no idea if it will be accessible enough.

1 inch DEI Titanium wrap, each pipe used 24 ft of wrap and rather happy with the result.

Good work that mate, though personally I'd have ceramic coated them myself.

Pricing just made getting it ceramic coated a bit over the top. Around £130 for each pipe, opposed to £15 each to heat wrap and a bit of my time.

@kindai what do you do for a living? You seem to know a fair bit about metals.

Database work and web design mainly, but I did engineering at A levels.

Hey all!!!

So, today a rather large box turned up :D :D

i.php

i.php

Inside was a small box and a lot of bubblewrap...

i.php

Inside the small box was a bypass kit for the exhaust valves! Woot!

i.php

Now feeling there might be something else in there I removed half the bubblewrap...

i.php

Neatly wrapping that up I found some more bubblewrap, and upon opening it... zorst :D

i.php

i.php

i.php

Went for a kline system as they are offering some amazing discounts and sound absolutely amazing. Welding work while not perfect is more than acceptable for the price.

i.php

Very happy, will be a shame to wrap it actually as looking at how it would sit in the engine bay it would show those 2 kline badges through the rear grills if someone looked.

So, DIY fixing of first world problems.

I dont like sticking holders / satnavs to the right of my wheel, I naturally prefer to look to the left. Unfortunately in a gallardo, sticking space is limited to the windscreen, which is simply annoying.

So, bit of lathe work later...

i.php

i.php

Key to pull it out with (does not go all the way through though to maintain the suction seal.

i.php

Felt tape to allow for a snug but safe fit

i.php

Vent removed.

i.php

Slots securely and snugly into the vent hole.

i.php

Fits TomTom mounts perfectly.

i.php

Generic cheap phone holder to test with.

i.php

Fits perfectly.

i.php

Realized I couldn't take a picture of my phone while it was in the holder.. so old phone to the rescue for demonstration purposes :)

i.php

DIY continues.

Was a lovely day and thought why not install the kline button until the exhaust goes on for the lols.

i.php

Cup o tea, check. Button kit, check. Lambo, check.

Back grill off.

i.php

i.php

Which gives access to the vacuum lines solenoid.

i.php

Unplug...

i.php

Plug the kline controller inbetween the 2 connections

i.php

i.php

Hide the controller somewhere dry

i.php

All done!

So... testing... does the button work.

Yup :D

Some revs before....

And after

Had some belt noises appear yesterday, theres only one belt on a gallardo and thats for the alternator. Have ordered a replacement for a whole 8 quid :D

Hi all!

So weds the car was dropped off for a full service top to bottom, full health check, look for any issues and problems, as well as fit the new exhaust.

i.php

With a few bits of trim removed...

i.php

You can see the glorious v10 engine! At this point I left them to it as it was going to take at least a day.

i.php

Weds afternoon I get a phonecall, que sharp intake of breath....

Fortunately it was just a front diff seal was leaking, somewhat annoying at the seal is a 2 week backorder item, but cant be helped. Otherwise for an 11 year old italian supercar, the condition was remarkably good!

Thursday popped back expecting to be driving it home today, or well thats how the day started.

First thing head round the door and heyup the rear bumpers off! Excellent... oh... whos that on the next ramp along, none other than my old GTR in for a service :) :) :)

i.php

Gareth was happily working away and things seems to be flying... unfortunately the exhaust clamps, as expected started to become an issue.

i.php

They had all rusted together and it was only at 12 the old back box finally managed to come off.

A quick inspection of the cats in situ they looked fine:

i.php

i.php

However the other side showed beginning signs of the infamous failures that can lead to a cat breaking up and causing catastrophic engine failure.

i.php

i.php

As it became apparent this wasnt happening in a day, decided to get another lovely shot of that engine, and leave them to it:

How do the running costs for it compare to the GTR?

Cheaper.

Lambo servicing is alternating major minor services. A major is £1k and a minor is £100. So averages out at £550 a year.

And yes, I trust Litchos to do the work, ive been hovering for 2 days and they are methodical and precise, if a little slow.
