The GTX 980 Ti owners thread.

Using the exact same settings (1440p) in Assetto Corsa that I used with my 2 x 290s, I now get 170FPS with 1 x stock 980 Ti compared to the ~100FPS I got with the 290s :)

Pretty impressive considering that my 4770K is now at stock speeds, and previously it was at 4.4GHz.

Anyone technically knowledgeable enough to explain why my previous G1 had up to 130 power limit on Afterburner, whilst my current Gaming Edition has 109 power limit with 69% ASIC on gpu-z.

Currently have the core at 150+ and runs very smooth. My previous G1 oc'ed slightly better, but damn dat coil whine was absolutely unbearable. And Twin Frozr runs silent even at 100% fan speed, whilst the G1 gave me a headache at 50-60%. Guess it just wasn't meant to be, perhaps next time Gigabyte. ;)

I exchanged the Gigabyte 980 Ti G1 due to coil whine. Got the MSI 980 Ti Gaming 6G and I'm quite pleased with another great Twin Frozr perfomance. Its very very quiet compared to the G1, and has absolutely no coil whine. Perhaps I was just unlucky, but my G1 singed songs like a whining bird.
I have a second 980 Ti Gaming 6G twin frozr incoming to run them in SLI. Hopefully I'l be fine going double non-reference assuming my case is well ventilated.

That's really reassuring news, as I'm thinking of getting an MSI. Don't know why the G1 is getting so much coil whine though. Only makes the decision to get the MSI easier now.

What sort of temps are you getting idle and on load with yours?

PullTheTricker what case will you be running those msi 980ti gaming sli in, you not worried about the heat, im thinking of doing the same myself but im going to need a decent full tower instead of a mid tower case i think ?

Idle 33c and load maximum 70-74c, but its NOT representative because currently where I live there is a record summer heat and my room temprature is almost like a sauna. In the Netherlands we are close to breaking our heat record in 1944.
My cpu is +10c hotter then usual as well, its pretty damn hot atm where I am, so perhaps someone else could provide a more realistic answer.
I can imagine this card getting no hotter then 66c with normal circumstances considering my case is actually pretty well ventilated, although it was never built for unusual circumstances like this, hehe. :D

In regular circumstances, my case is extremely well ventilated, thats why I'm personally not that worried. But we'l see, my second card isn't coming probably untill next week. Currently just enjoying a single card.
As for tower advice, I cannot say. But I use Corsair 450D with 6x AF quiet edition fans from Corsair. Just be sure you don't sandwich them, you'l need a mobo with spaced SLI.

My Gigabyte 7950 WF x3 has coil whine so i am kinda being put off by all these people saying there G1's have it, never had a MSI myself but so far the feedback from you guys seems good. Real shame because isn't the G1 the best overclocker?

My G1 when I had it, it was a beast of an overclocker, almost 90% ACIS on gpu-z too. But it was definitely noisy, and my curreny MSI Gaming Edition is very silent, but average oc. It holds fine at 150+ core, but going too much past that will make it choke at stock voltage. My current card is 69% ACIS for what its worth.
I can get anywhere from 21k-22k graphics score on firestrike depending on oc on my current Gaming Edition anyways, these cards are more then powerfull enough to not need major oc.

Total luck of the draw tbh guys when it comes to oc ability. A few years ago i had a pair of windforce 670's. One cold run +120 core 24/7, the second struggled with anything higher than +70.

I have an EVGA Superclocked ACX 2.0+ and to be honest I found it would run quite hot at 80c - 82c during a prolonged Witcher 3 session at 4K. This was even with a more aggressive fan profile. Anything over 65% fan was getting noticeable.

So I installed an Arcrtic Accelero Xtreme Hybrid I had sitting unused. The ACX 2.0+ has a very nice VRAM and VRM plate that negated the need for me to install any additional heatsinks. Just needed a 30mm X 30mm X 1.2mm copper shim and it has transformed the card to a cool and very quiet running beast.

It is overclocked to 1455 core (boost clock) and +500 VRAM without any additional voltage required. Temps are 28c-30c idle and 57c-60c load (ambient temp dependent) after a prolonged Witcher 3 session.

So anyone wondering if an Arctic Accelero Xtreme Hybrid fits the 980Ti, there is your answer. I'm not sure a shim would be required for other 980Ti variants, but on the EVGA ACX 2.0+ it is.

This card is quite something, used my 780 SLI settings for Pcars, threw in some 4K DSR and a 1400mhz OC, a lovely smooth 45-50fps in the rain with GSync. LOVE IT.

FINALLY got my AMP! in.

Stock boosting to 1253mhz on the core, will give it a little OC but already its proving superior to my 780 SLI.

If its just the standard Amp! edition that we all got in the promotion, push it to 1420 with no extra volts, it will be fine I'm sure. I bet if you try 1430 though it'll crash no matter what you try ;)

Already had it at 1490 ;)

Any higher and I hit the power limit.

Even at stock though, its quicker, smoother and quieter then my 780's, and they were on water!!

That extra 50-100 mhz on the G1 will be hard to perceive in game. Not to mention there are some G1 cards that can't run 1465MHz according to user reviews because of the silicon lottery.

And they louder. Most Ti's are getting a 10-20% increase when overclocked so is 50mhz really going to matter? At that point its noise you start looking at and the MSI card wins every time.

Sorry if Im harping on about the G6 cards but they awesome :D

Yeah its always a lottery with chips but maxwell in general seem to get 1400mhz at the very least with a little voltage bump at most.

Ive got my TX stable @1490mhz with 0.72 bump in voltage

Just wondering if on the Gigabyte G1 to get the OC level rather than the stock, its just a question of upping the base clock +38 to 1190 without any other modification to the volts? Cant get OC Guru II to install/work so have to set it through Afterburner. Does anyone know if there"s a switch on the card instead perhaps?
