The GTX 980 Ti owners thread.

With a bit of playing, moving to custom bios doesn't seem to help much with my cards.

It's enough to get me to 1500/8000, whereas just regular bios gets me about 1475/7900. Extra voltage doesn't seem to help me very much at all.

Was wanting constant 1500/8000, but the performance difference is negligible, so will just stick to regular bios and 1475.

Regular bios with voltage increase also seems to allow 1500, but is not stable in batman.

Also 1475/7900 seems about the limit for tdp. Adding even +25mv starts throttling a bit in certain situations.

Hmm, I wouldn't mind going back to reference cards if I knew I could get similar overclocks to my Amp extremes. They both run stable at over 1500 but i just can't kep them in sli due to the top card being almost twice as hot as the bottom one.

They sure are hot *******s!!! The top one certainly doesn't like the furnace beneath it ;) :D

What monitor do you have Beasty? Reason that I ask is that using Adaptive Vsync on mine (limiting it to 60fps) keeps the temp/noise down quite well and more than bearable :)

(I also had to re-arrange my case fans slightly but now I have one pushing air in-between my cards so is helping a little too)

I'm running an Asus PB287Q so i'm limited to 60fps anyway but at 4k. I did try them out for a bit but with the tiny 5mm gap between both, my bottom card was at 48c and my top at 82c with fans at 80%
I knew I shouldnt have gone ahead but on overclockers advice I chose to do it. I hate to request a return on these cards but on this occasion I do feel it's not my fault so I think I'm gonna have to do it. I'm looking at the msi gaming versions but I'm still worried about temps.

I gotta be honest mate, those temps wouldn't concern me. When unleashed my top G1 can hit 91c!!!! Adaptive Vsync has really sorted me out and only hits 80 now which is more than acceptable :)

Try it, see if it improves things? Not like your monitor can take more than 60fps anyhow!!

As an aside, just checked out the Hexus review of the Zotac and it's a MONSTER!! In some games it's 30-40% faster than the FuryX and that's at 4k!!! Holy ****!!

Considering they're produced on an old node, these really are great great cards :D

edit - 91c is when looping Firestrike btw, stresses the crap out of the card!!! Now *that's* a temp test!! Try it ;)

**** !!!! I'm so torn on what to do, it's just that 5mm gap between the cards that worries me, they are so loud at 80% and they don't seem to be constant either, it's as if they are struggling and keep speeding up and then down again. I do have a a 900D case though and Ive not even got the front intakes blowing yet as I'm just waiting on a fan controller, maybe they'll run even cooler once they are running.
They are awesome cards however and this is what bothers me, I don't really want different ones.

OK will do, on another note, is watercooling an option for these cards ?

They're custom, so fairly unlikely. I know someone is producing blocks for the G1 but unsure on the Zotac. If that's the route you're thinking of taking then maybe send them back and go for reference? Or send 1 back and live with the 1 card for a while?

Before I got my second G1 i *did* plan on getting a reference card and fitting it with a Hybrid cooler (or just getting a Hybrid card). They'll SLi together fine, and might be an option for you? And then the top Hybrid card will take the heat a lot better...

Got both mine in a custom loop, just my putting them under water & not changing any of the bios settings I can hit 1500 stable (less power used on air coolers I guess, not hitting the power limit so fast).

Sitting at 40c under load, 32 idle, 28 CPU idle - 45 load..

Really great build the EK blocks, I won't say what I had to get to get one out of it's reference cooler..... (lets just say, if it breaks - I won't be getting a refund!). :p:p:p

Adaptive vsync will only work in games where you have too much grunt. If your cards can't maintain 60fps then you'll be in the same situation.

Get a new mobo that gives you maximum space between cards, and get a side fan on the case. It's about all you realistically do... Besides RMA the cards.

I'd be more than happy to buy 2 hybrids right now, there's no stock anywhere so it's not possible

EK are currently doing waterblocks for the MSI Gaming 6G, Asus Strix and Gigabyte G1 in the next 1-2 months. Not sure on any other cards at the minute. I think its a similar story with other blocks aswell. They tend to do the cards that or more popular or/ receive first.

Give it a day or two to sort a couple of things out and if you're still not happy then personally I'd say send one back then get a hybrid to pair with it in a few weeks (or the same with 2 if you want to match cards and just wait for the Hybrids) ;)
