The GTX 980 Ti owners thread.

I hope so. As you can see below, they are an extremely tight fit but I've finally got some support for them (very heavy cards) and tomorrow I'll finish getting everything setup and look at putting a fan at the end of both cards blowing cool air over them.

It's just a shame motherboard manufacturers aren't a bit more accommodating when it comes to big chunky and powerful cards. What I find strange is that triple slot cards seem to have been around for some time but even boards that claim to be "gaming" boards can't really accommodate the best cards in SLI.

When it comes to PCI-E is there a reason why most boards won't allow the third slot to be used at 8x if the second slot isn't being used?

They are, it just depends what board/platform you're running.

Yeah I understand it does happen but thats my point, surely one of the most popular platforms for gamers must be z97? Asus and msi gaming boards must also be some of the most popular boards ?

There are plenty of boards with appropriate spacing. That is in z97 range.

You just need to consider such things prior to purchase of either motherboard or cards.

It's a lesson I am sure many an enthusiast has had to learn the hard way. For example, my board can take up to four cards, or allows for some major spacing, and gives massive flexibility. Also paid through the nose for it though.

I guess your right about a lesson learnt. I had read reviews saying the board I went for had enough space for a triple card betwen slots 1 and 2, they neglected to say there wouldn't be any room for the card to breathe. Would you be so kind as to let me know which boards you know of that would give me enough room for the zotac extremes and space for it to breathe?

Well still waiting for my 980ti to come into stock :(

However on the plus side thanks to greece tanking the euro earlier in the week I got to upgrade from the standard HOF to the ln2 edition for next to nothing. I figure there's no such thing as overkill :D

Now I just have to wait a couple more weeks, going to have to put my cruddy old 7970 in my new rig for now.
