The GTX 980 Ti owners thread.

Push/Pull on H55 Rad gives another 3-4C cooler temps  Just playing around with it now. That's with 100% silent (from 6" away!!) high CFM 120mm fans running 1200RPM Front Push & 1000RPM Back Pull.

Key seems to be keeping the Rad cold as possible=very low Case, CPU, PSU temps.

If you have H55 & the case space try push/pull config those 3-4C are important as it means lower case temps for all your other components as the GPU backplate dumps less heat into the case airflow.

Hmm ...... but you have perfect from the PC gods modern air cooling don't you ;)

H55 + G10 lower those temps by 20C do your GPU/Ears a favour ;)

You see its not just me is it!!

You might have had a point if this had to do with airflow, it's more to do with dodgy thermal paste application :)

Waiting to hear back from asus about my card, should be interesting as you usually get a gibberish laden response put through google translator by someone who has been on the vodka intravenously.

Looked around online and the marketing material for the strix is hilarious, they claim "30% cooler and 3x quieter". Well considering it can load at around 77-80c (and ive seen it up at 83c before) and a reference ti hits about 83c that's more like what, 8% or thereabouts? And that's being generous taking the lower reading.

Even some reviews seem to indicate similar temperatures, hardocp got 79c on theirs yet for some reason they and other reviewers totally ignore the spiel asus put out about it being x amount cooler and quieter instead of taking them to task about it. I can only assume noise wasn't an issue as the pitch of the fans would be lower than the blower on the reference card so thats why fan noise never got much of a mention in some reviews and thats the comparison they were drawing.

Annoying as its a really great looking card, going to wait and see what asus say first though before going any further. :( From initially being happy with it despite paying the supply and demand price its really grinding now =/.

Was there not an issue with previous Asus cards and poor cooler contact? 83c on a non reference card is a bit alarming.

There was a thread i spotted a while ago linking a story claiming asus delayed these cards from sale due to finding gaps between the heatpipes. The article is no longer online but it wasn't long after reviews started to appear and pictures started doing the rounds of thermal paste filling in the gaps between the heatpipes.

I wouldn't mind 78-80 c provided the card is quiet, a lot of people were stating that asus traded thermals for quieter performance, but it can kick up quite a racket depending on the game. Just seems strange that since i got it the temps have climbed even though we're now in the cooler time of the year.

Would they not be able to tell the different TIM used? I think that would be pretty obvious, no?

Probably not as its just grey TIM, noctua nht paste looks the same as it. Its just when dealing with asus they haven't exactly got a stellar reputation when it comes to honouring warranty. Just have to search for asus rma to get some eyebrows raising so in most cases its better not to mess with it.

I could change it now and it would only take a few minutes, just gonna wait to hear back from them first before deciding what to do.

on about 50% fan I get high 60's on 1480mhz on mine
if yours is going fast enough to be noisy plus running over 80C I would definitely say it has a problem

even running 2 cards in SLI at 1480 it doesn't go much above 70C

Not really sure what percentage the fans have ramped up to. 50% I find pretty noticeable, 45% or thereabouts isn't bad.

Have to give it a hammering with war thunder later and see what temps and fan speeds I get.
