I have a yearly checkup where they take an image of you - front, back, left, right, top, bottom, and map all your moles. Takes a good hour, and they do an inspection of every single mole too.
Then on a year by year basis they see the ones that change - and clearly on my back I can't see then at all. They spotted some which had changed and looking dysplastic, so as a precaution they lobbed them off. Problem whilst it was only 8 stitches and quite a deep wound on the back meant that I couldn't do ANYTHING. even tying my shoes would cause it tug on my stitches, sleeping wasn't fun either. As someone that is active it was quite tough not being able to do any exercise... but I used it as an opportunity to focus on my mindfulness and enjoy Christmas a bit more.
But anyway, I can't urge people who have moles to get them checked out. I'm not a sun worshiper and despite having olive skin I am careful in the sun. it's so easy to not spot these sort of things and so easily treatable if you get it sorted early.
Have to admit the NHS moved very quickly on this.
