Wow, mine are so far behind you lot, I know I started late but at this rate I won't see anything until the end of the year if at all.

How hard is it to grow Jalapenos? I have a real obsession with them recently. I have them on everything, so was thinking about maybe growing some?

I believe they are one of the easier ones, and apache are worth a look too, I've got a 2 and they have been dead easy, I've given them some weak tomato food now they are flowering, but other than giving them as much sun as poss, they pretty much take care of themselves.

Loads of flowers on my apaches now! and tonnes of little buds!

can't wait for some chillies to start growing!:D

They are only about 20 cm high!

Nope, I pollinated them all with a brush. Got loads of peppers, cayenne chillies, jalepenos, but anything that was hot and required a lot of sun wouldn't produce fruit.

I might live 100 miles from you, but I live in 'raindrop valley', they don't call it that for nothing :p. I can go a few miles into Bury and it is like a few degrees warmer and clear skies. If i wanted to get some scotch bonnets i'd have to use a grow lamp. But tbh I'm happy enough with cayennes and jalapeños.

Great thread this, just started reading it, been growing chillis for ever, just to note, chillis self pollinate by the way, no need for this brushing or shaking the plant :) flowers drop from all plants usually, its nothing to do with pollination, as usually your see the little green chilli up inside anyway, its usually the plant just saying to itself it cant support all the flowers at this time, or its not quite ready, go join chillis galore forum, great site for all serious chilli growers, and great info.

I will upload some pics later, be good if anyone could advise how healthy my plants are, they may all be green but I'd like feedback from the pros.

Ah, my wee guys have an aphid infestation! As they are all in pots I'm attempting running water and giant squashing fingers of doom as organic methods to remove them. Clustering around new leaves, and tips of flowers.

Bu the blighters give birth to pregnant offspring, so I need to make sure i get them all!

Ohhh yeah, keep forgetting about this. I've let my butch t's go, pretty much dead. Salvageable but I think I've got enough chillies for one year. Will see how many I eat this year and grow more next year if I'm liking them. I'm on chillies galore too but its been a whike . need to read up on food tomorrow.

Ok! Got my pics.

Now, these aren't looking that great for 2 reasons. 1. Over watered, i've not even noticed the cayenne ones have been getting watered daily for the past....months haha. and 2. Because i thought you fed them once in a blue moon, not once a week haha. so i've started that tonight.

Now, i WAS gonna throw out my Butch t's but i've decided to try and save them. I've brought back worse looking ones haha!

Looking at everyone else's, i know mine look horrendous haha. I gave strict instructions to water once a while and i'll check in every now and again, but i lost interest and haven't been keeping an eye on them. Give me and month and i'll change all that!

In other news, tonights jobs were to weed out the raised beds, only 2 of them, Leeks in 1, Potatoes in another. Sort the net that goes over the strawbs and plant 2 raspberries and 1 blackcurrant. Along with feeding the chillis

I had a plant wilt like that, left it out in the sun and put the others away and forgot about it for ages! It's coming back like. Some great plants, mine seemed to do great indoors but since going out have really slowed down.

I had a bad infestation the very first year I grew chillies (2 years ago). But since then I haven't had a problem. I tried knocking the buggers off but they just kept coming back! I gave up eventually, luckily it was towards the end of the season.

I checked the butch t's this morning and one has totally perked up! Took a pic, but I'm waiting till after work to see if the other one will come up too.

Chilies are very resilient to wilting.
In fact several places say you should wilt them to cause stress, which will produce a hotter chilli, how true that is no idea. But all of mine wilt several times a week and all perk back up within hours of watering.
Grow lights and a constant 30c for ~14hrs a day and relatively small pots makes water disappear.

Yeah I'm gonna look into grow lights for next season. Maybe some of those quad tubs for easy watering. Will pot on the butch t's at the weekend. No idea what I'm doing with them though, not even gonna attempt to eat any haha, far too hot.

check out this boy today! this was the pic from this morning. i had swapped them about, but with the pics side by side...

Yeah, I dont pollinate them any more. They get shaken a little when I move them to another window sill to get the last of the evening sun, but other than that I just leave them to it.

After saying that about the weather here, there has been like 3 weeks of constant sun :D.

Ho ho! Looking good!

OK, here's a question. I buy gardening mags now and again and in one of them (Grow your own) it has a tip. "Pick your chillies while they're still green. Instead of pouring energy into ripening the crop, the plants will produce more fruit". Now does anyone do this? Obviously I take it they will ripen over time.
