Well temptation got the better of me and I sampled 2 chillies last night, they were green, about an inch long (think this breed grow to a bout 2 inches).

No heat at all, no even a bell pepper like taste... anyone know how you can tell when they are ripe? I guess they turn yellow then red eventually, but I know you can eat them green too.. anything to look for?

Thanks

Yeah, to put it simply. i took a couple off mine, they were about 2-3" long, green. my other half could easily munch them down.

...she sometimes thinks a korma is spicy.

My Basket of Fire are looking great! Must have about 50 chillies on one. Will get a pic up tomorrow. really hope i can over winter them, If they are producing this much fruit. gonna pot on my Butch t's and possibly the Baskets.

I got me a Naga plant for this year and all seemed to be goign well when I checked on it.......but convoluted but it is at my mates house in Plymouth where I will be moving too in a month or so......and when I asked him for a sitrep the other day, he said that there appears to be flowers forming, but these are dropping off and I don't believe he means petals dropping but the whole flower head.

Any reason this is happening and what can be done to remedy the situation?

Are they producing pollen? If so they need to be pollinated you know...

As above flowers will die and drop off, unless pollinated.
Nagas and other hot chillies are extremely hard to pollinate by hand. Better to stick them outside when possible.

Some of my apaches, just want to start munching them but no heat in them yet!

I also brought up the Twilight(originally thought it was a cayenne) from the poly tunnel and put it in the greenhouse with the other ones.

Does anyone know of any good chilihead shops online? Scorchio was my main one and it's crap these days, always out of stock of stuff and barely gets anything new in.

Hey guys. Quick question have i missed my opportunity to grow this year? The GFs mum just got a lovely empty greenhouse and wanting to have a go at growing some.

Joe.

Too late to grow from seed, best bet is to go down to a garden centre or DIY store and buy some grown ones. I was in Homebase last week and they had huge basket of fire and apache plants on half price as they were trying to get rid of them. must have been hundreds of chillis on each plant.

Woaaa some excellent looking chillies :)

Mine seem to be a little slow at developing this year but my Jalapenos are quite large. I have a couple of other large plants but with few flowers :(

Some photos of my chilli's in my polly, will update next when they have ripe pods on.

nagalah plant on its second fruit had some earlier in year but were to small

,god knows what ill do with them might post to mr vikkis he likes em hot
,ive grown some hot chillies before pod 7 they were vile ,Trinidad scorpion ,nagas but these look the best.
plenty of scovilles to be honest way to hot for me ,might be good come Christmas for pickling .
on another note I see other plants yield lots more fruit how do igrow a plant to yield bigger and better fruits
I am feeding mine as well I assume they grow better outside in a greenhouse

Bad form to quote myself but thought I should mention I tried one of my bigger older (still green) chillies about a day ago, it had a real hot kick, hotter than the skinny green ones from Tesco I would say and on par with a scotch bonnet, but not very tasty, the scotch bonnets I've had before had a really clean fruity taste where as this was just really hot and didn't really taste of anything¬!

I dread to think how hot they will get if they go red!

Great looking plants daytrader! All looking super healthy! Could you explain a little about how you done the self watering. Intrested for next year.

Same with yours Paul, looks great!

What kinda chillies were they Matt?
