EGCC -->> UUMM

A very windy + cold UUMM tree skimming on short finals with Murmansk city off to the right.

Manchester to...?

Where is UUMM?

I just started getting back into FS9, thinking about upgrading to FSX since my PC should be able to handle it nicely. (E6750, 8800GT, 2gb ramz0r etc)

Murmansk - tucked right up in the north west of Russia - seriously in the middle of nowhere. I had a few hours spare today so insted of my usual short EGLL/EGCC -->> EDDF/EDDV I just picked somewhere out at random from Google Earth.

Funny on approach, tower wind check was giving me: Winds 230 at 13, gusting 125 :eek: I very nearly went around, the cloud was murky down at 1,200AGL and as I dropped below it all I could see was the tops of the trees obscuring the threshold.

I too have seen too many pics and videos of FSX and have been sorely tempted. I've resisted so far. FS9 is run with absolutely everything at max, all the sliders all the way up, at 2560x1024 with 4xAA 8xAF and frame rate capped at 25, full AI traffic pack installed, Ultimate Terrain Europe and PMDG 737/747, Active Sky and Radar Contact. The only slow-down I get is at KJFK/KSFO/KSEA first thing in the morning with all the AI traffic queuing up for departure, and I think that's more to do with the complex PMDG 747 panel than any graphics issues.

The thing that most tempted me was seeing a screenshot of the ATC window on FSX, with all the previous messages being displayed, saves me prompting them to "Say again" all the time. :p

Is there a way to get the ATC window to come up only when the messages are for me?

(another reason for me sticking to FS9 for the time being is the mods available compared the the relatively low amount for FSX - for the time being)

After a bit of searching I managed to download a 747-200 with the 1988 SAA livery which i flew to Cape Town on when i was 3 years old. Can't argue with that!

Also downloaded a British Caledonian DC-10. There's a blast from the almost-forgotten past!

I'm not sure, I haven't used default ATC for a few years now, been using Radar Contact.
