Vastly different.
ArmA is quite extreme, more tactical.
There's a lot more dying also, from the AI, 6000 miles away. Shooting you with an ak47. At night. Whilst it's foggy. And you're in a building. And the AI is blind. And has no arms. And the AK47 isn't real.

If you forget the "shoot through walls" accurate AI though, it's a good laugh.
I haven't played Arma2 online yet, but the first was very very good.
