The 'Hiper-Explosive' Club

I have a Hiper 530W PSU...It's constantly ticking (according to numerous sources its on its way out) and it was a warranty replacement for one that went "pop" when it was first turned on. I've contacted the suppliers and they don't seem to be responding as far as taking it back. For this reason (2 dodgy Hiper's in a row) I would like to become a member!

You do realise posting that you think its not that bad is jinxing it. I can't remember where I was defending mine however withing a few weeks of doing that mine blew up taking the MB out with it!

Dave

Exact same thing happened with me, totally jinxed it. Luckily it never took anything out with it! :) just did the buzzing noise when turned on and couldn't power up.

Dont suppose anyone has thrown theirs out and kept the cables, recently rma'd mine and have lost the modular cables for it, cant seem to find replacements anywhere?

I'll have a look, binned the unit but may still have some of the leads kicking around, possibly in the 'toolbox' I got with it which is still going strong!

To close (I hope) my part of the story, I have just received an email saying my replacement is on it's way. Looks like it is a blue one of the same spec - I guess one that has been repaired and put into stock as they are onto the Mk.2 now. 24th Nov to 11th Dec isn't exactly speedy turnaround but at least they are in the UK. The decision now is to leave the cheap replacement in or to put the Hiper back. The modular cables were really useful so I may well swap them over.

Don't even risk it. You have had one fail already. Stick the damn thing on the bay and buy a decent psu.

Does anyone know if the Hiper 425W HPU-4S425 Silent ATX2.01 PSU (the cheapest, simplest model; the one I own) has the potential to follow its more advanced brethren in its kamikaze mission? I don't want it to fry my new GPU

Wow.. I wish I saw this thread before I bought the non-modular 580w model in March 07. I was just about to leave the PC on overnight to author some DVDs when I noticed a burning smell. I shut everything down and yanked the PSU out and here I am on the laptop with a smokey smelling PSU next to me. Maybe it's just cooling down but it's making these eerie popping noises.

It hasn't actually died or killed my system yet so will they even consider taking it back under warranty?

Mine went bank lastnight. Bro was playing Empire - TW, all was fine, then Bang. PC is on for about 15hrs per day (if i include weekends) originally ordered "Order Date: 14 Dec, 06, 12:18 pm" - PC load is close to 250-300W

The bang took out my Belkin ups (was a crappie 350va thing i got from ^OS's^ for £30) I presumed it was the UPS first, so after flighing the circut breaker back on, i plugged a kettle lead and the PSU went bang again. I'm now using a old 350w PSU i found in the back of the cupboard and now looking to get a new PSU and perhaps a case :P

* - On a side note the pc appears to be working, now i've removed the PSU.

yup, had a 580w Type-R modular go on me, thaught it was just a freak occurance! dont remember it taking out any components at the time. lasted around 8 months, had around a 300-400w load on it.

I have just had mine go flash BANG after 25 months, It's back with Hiper at the minute but will they replace it with a 580 as they don't make them any more or will they repair mine. I've no idea if it's taken any other components with it.

I intend to use the replacement to test my pc and if it's all working I'll grab a new PSU as soon as possible.

I've just received my replacement PSU but won't get it in my system until tomorrow night.

Fingers crossed it didn't take anything else with it when it blew.

Has anyone tried to claim for burnt out parts from Hiper due to faulty PSU's?

Scott

After reading this thread a while back I must admit to retiring my 18 month old Hiper when I put a new motherboard and Q9950 into my set up a couple of months ago. Just didn't want to take the risk of ruining nearly £400 of new gear if it went pop:rolleyes:
