The Huw Edwards situation

Why has he resigned so suddenly if no criminal offence has been committed?
Because of all the bad publicity and potentially has tried to kill himself or similar?

Which is the reason why responsible news sources tend not to run stories when both the alleged victim and perpetrator have said nothing illegal has happened, or at the very least you research the hell out of it and not go with the most sensational version of the story you can.

Could be fun times for the Sun's lawyers if it's true they were told by the alleged victim that the story was junk.

This is what im thinking, maybe the story was just bull and they were out to try and get some money. Who was that idiot that cried rape and said they were raped by an asian rape gang which turned out to be all lies!

I'd imagine if Huw did commit suicide over this, there would be so hefty prison sentences going out and a thorough deep investigation as to how the Sun and News UK operates.

BBC are now saying he hasn't resigned.

He probably should resign if the allegations are true other than the bit the mother of the first person alleged re: it starting at 17 rather than 18 or over.

It's still sleazy AF in that case and there's still the alleged covid breach which cost others their public-facing jobs too. He appears to have totally disgraced himself.

If all this stuff is not true then he can just deny ever meeting these people or ever making any of them payments but we've not seen any denials along those lines.

Statement in full

Here is Vicky Flind's statement on behalf of her husband, given to PA news agency, in full:
"In light of the recent reporting regarding the 'BBC Presenter' I am making this statement on behalf of my husband Huw Edwards, after what have been five extremely difficult days for our family.
"I am doing this primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children.
"Huw is suffering from serious mental health issues. As is well documented, he has been treated for severe depression in recent years.
"The events of the last few days have greatly worsened matters, he has suffered another serious episode and is now receiving in-patient hospital care where he'll stay for the foreseeable future.
"Once well enough to do so, he intends to respond to the stories that have been published.
"To be clear Huw was first told that there were allegations being made against him last Thursday.
"In the circumstances and given Huw's condition I would like to ask that the privacy of my family and everyone else caught up in these upsetting events is respected.
"I know that Huw is deeply sorry that so many colleagues have been impacted by the recent media speculation. We hope this statement will bring that to an end."
