So he can do what he likes as long as it doesn't meet the threshold to be considered a crime?
Isn't that the exact basis of the society we live in? That's exactly what laws are for. So far it appears this person was an adult. An adult can make their own decisions even if you disagree with the morality of their decision.

@Werewolf maybe you could answer @C Kent as you seem to be an expert in what constitutes a scandal?
Quite amsuing that werewolf is excusing one of those as just "the behaviour of a presenter BEFORE they were hired by the BBC". I wonder what this reporter said exactly..

2021: Tala Halawa controversy

In May 2021, the media reported that Tala Halawa, who joined the BBC in 2017 and was reporting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, had posted anti-Israel and anti-Semitic tweets in 2014. Among her postings, Halawa had tweeted "#Hitler was right" and "Zionists can't get enough of our blood".[248][249] As Halawa was reporting on the 2021 Israeli-Palestinian Crisis, doubts about her credibility as a neutral and objective reporter were raised.[249] In June 2021, the BBC announced that Halawa no longer worked for the BBC without providing further details.[250][251] Halawa later issued a written statement, in which she blamed her dismissal on "external pro-Israel interest groups," and "pro-Israel censorship campaigns", and said that she had been dismissed due to the desire to "eliminate Palestinians from public life." She also said in the statement that she had been targeted by “pro-Israel groups” because she had “recently published a video report for the corporation about celebrities being criticized trolled and canceled for supporting Palestinian self-determination”.[252]

oh!

the 1st point maybe... .but then so is threatening to out someone for possibly kinky stuff done on a dating site between 2 consenting adults.

the 2nd point absolutely...... but that has only come to light AFTER the sun article and even now is done in anonymity and they have not reported to the police. .....
I am not saying this 2nd part isnt true..... but that rather than making allegations to the public space they should be made to the authorities.

1st point - two wrongs dont make a right..

2nd point - THE BBC complaints were made to THE BBC and reported by THE BBC, nothing to do with The Sun, and following the correct process

So you are saying an abusive relationship is ok as long as there is no criminality?

So you are saying that a person can abuse a position of power as long as there is no criminality?

Nice straw man.

Let's try this again - if it happens between consenting adults and isn't illegal - I've highlighted the important parts for you to make it easier. Abuse can often cross in to the illegal but even if it doesn't, it wouldn't be between consenting adults. So no, I'm not ok with abuse but, on the same sort of theme, I am ok with people being into BDSM if they, and their partner, are legally consenting adults.

Go and send a sleazy message to a female boss - HR won't mind as its just 'banter' lol..
no you would likely get disciplined or maybe even fired.............. as is the correct thing to do.... if it crossed the line even more to actual threatening or continual harrasment then the plod would (I hope) take an interest and prosecute.

but spreading the story all over the media *before* the investigation is concluded and when there is still doubt over a persons guilt or not is wrong.... even IF ultimately he is guilty .

There are some seriously disturbing views in this thread - criminality is ok as long as you dont get caught or you can keep your victim quiet.

No

It's because "it's a BBC scandal" when what happened was BEFORE she was employed by them, when the BBC found out they acted.

It's amazing how many "BBC scandals" involve stuff that happened outside of work, in the persons private life, or before they were employed by the BBC, and in some cases decades previously or whilst they were working at another broadcaster.

IIRC the BBC (and a lot of other companies) started to tighten up and check more of of potential employees social media stuff a few years, but given those tweets were from 7 years before the BBC employed her, how far back and how many of a potential employees social media accounts do you expect them to check? (and then we get into the "scandal" about the "BBC cancelling staff over private comments" and "wasting tax payer money on pointless checks" and "BBC invades staff privacy").
