The Huw Edwards situation

You are right there are some seriously disturbed views in this thread and being gay or liking men isnt a crime and hasnt been for decades.

You are the one outing him as gay - as far as I'm aware the gender of the complainants hasn't been revealed - I dont care what letter (or not) he is, my views the same regardless..

I don't like to assume guilt in these cases, but it's the BBC... Hopefully the "victims" will take it further if there is actually evidence....

Was hoping it was someone with a higher profile, like Graham Norton... lol

What a silly post. No one is doubting the pictures or that it was him. There was no crime apart from it being men and him being at the BBC oh and the hanging worthy lockdown incident.

The story here is man who hadnt outed himself is outed by the Sun. Thats the story.

BBC journalists had started work on a potential exposé about Huw Edwards before allegations were published in The Sun newspaper, it has been reported.

The entertainment website Deadline reported two sources at the corporation said Newsnight anchor Victoria Derbyshire was examining accusations about Edwards’ conduct days before claims he allegedly paid a teenager for explicit pictures.

But a third source downplayed the work, saying one person was spoken to before it was deemed there was no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of Edwards.

On Wednesday, Newsnight reported new claims from two BBC staff members, one current and one former, who said they had received “inappropriate messages” from Edwards, “some late at night and signed off with kisses”.

Both said there was “a reluctance among junior staff to complain to managers about the conduct of high-profile colleagues in case it adversely affected their careers,” Newsnight said.

The BBC has resumed its own investigation into Edwards after the Metropolitan Police said no criminal offence has been committed by the presenter.

...a full and thorough investigation

She must be gutted then.

Its certainly a bit of a disturbing set of thoughts.

Thats 14 to 15.

I think hes trying to be edgy and a bit provocative. This was 11 years ago, before the world collectively lost its sense of humour and decided that anything someone said should be taken at face value despite everything pointing towards a joke in bad taste.

Smacks of the people losing their minds over Clarksons piece about dreaming of Meghan Markle being paraded naked through the streets while people chant "shame". Anyone with an ounce of common sense might realise hes taking the **** but we can't be having any sort of context or measured reaction to these things nowadays can we.

But even Clarkson didn't defend it...

Didn't defend what?

One of the strange things I’ve noticed in recent times is that whenever an MP or a well-known person is asked to apologise for something, no matter how heartfelt or profound that apology may be, it’s never enough for the people who called for it in the first place.

So I’m going to try and buck the trend this morning with an apology for the things I said in a Sun column recently about Meghan Markle. I really am sorry. All the way from the balls of my feet to the follicles on my head. This is me putting my hands up. Its a mea culpa with bells on.

Usually, I read what I’ve written to someone else before filing, but I was home alone on that fateful day, and in a hurry. So when I’d finished, I just pressed send. And then, when the column appeared the next day, the land mine exploded.

We’ve all been there, I guess. In that precise moment when we suddenly realise we’ve completely messed up. You are sweaty and cold at the same time. And your head pounds. And you feel sick. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Had I really said that? It was horrible.

I knew what had happened straight away. I’d been thinking of a scene in Games Of Thrones, but I’d forgotten to mention this. So it looked like I was actually calling for revolting violence to rain down on Meghan’s head. I was very angry with myself because in all those controversial days on Top Gear, when I was accused of all sorts of things, it was very rarely sexism.

We never did ‘women can’t park’ gags for instance. Or suggested that powerful cars were only for men. And I was thrilled when Jodie Kidd and Ellen MacArthur set fastest-ever laps in our reasonably-priced car. I’m just not sexist and I abhor violence against women. And yet I seemed to be advocating just that.

I was mortified and so was everyone else. My phone went mad. Very close friends were furious. Even my own daughter took to Instagram to denounce me.

The Sun quickly apologised, and I tried to explain myself. But still, there were calls for me to be sacked and charged with a hate crime. More than 60 MPs demanded action to be taken. ITV, who make Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and Amazon, who make The Farm Show and The Grand Tour, were incandescent.

I therefore wrote to everyone who works with me saying how sorry I was and then on Christmas morning, I emailed Harry and Meghan in California to apologise to them too.

I said I was baffled by what they had been saying on TV but that the language I’d used in my column was disgraceful and that I was profoundly sorry.

Of course he apologised. The pitchforks were out. Point me at someone who has done something like this and said "and wot".

You can either die on that hill and have your career ruined or issue an apology. I imagine that he does wish he had added the caveat that he was referencing game of thrones but only because it might have taken some of the froth out of peoples mouthes. The man has made a career out of hyperbole and winding people up.

What better place than a thread where the national news story of underage sex crime imploded from lack of evidence and there's still people with pitchforks wanting him to get... a HR meeting about professionalism when messaging colleagues

So you think he will be reinstated with a slap on the wrist and sue The Sun?

What a surprise

Also to preempt the apologists, he obviously had a sex addicition, cut the guy some slack, he can't help it
alternatively could it perhaps just be a form of satire? i mean.... the whole piece sounds like more a joke article than a factual piece... that said.... isnt he a wife batterer himself? so not saying he is a decent human being.

indeed it is linked in the same twitter thread
