The "if you don't look 21" rule

Whilst I have no problem with the whole ""do you look 21" rule (I'm 18) getting ID'd at the door than again at the bar really annoys me.....

I think I may have just gone elsewhere.

I don't have a photo driving licence. I don't want to pay for one but might have to. I'm 26 and get ID'd by people 10 years younger than me or so. I understand why they have to do it, but all I have is a "prove it" card that they used to accept about 8 years ago :) They don't seem to like that anymore.

What do photo driving licences look like if you have points on, do they print them on it or something, or just stored on the chip (or whatever the dumb things have)?

You have a paper counterpart that they put them on to, no change to your actual 'card'.

I don't even see the point of making "if you look 21..." a rule

Surely people should just ID whoever they want to, and leave it at that.

Why point out to people that they may be ID'd, when upon buying alcohol, or entering liscenced premises, they should be expecting it anyway?

They should just make the drinking age 21 full stop. Would stop all the silly little kids fighting up town and ruining everyone’s Saturday night

Then what happens to the 19/20 year old who has been going out drinking for year(s), expect them to stop completely and stay in during the evenings?

I presume you're over 21, touting this rule.

Imagine if you werent allowed to go out drinking, despite having done so for years because you are a specific age. You wouldn't stop, so you cant expect anyone else who has been legally able to drink to do so.

Poor Idea

I think the point is more what would that age group do who all of a sudden can't drink? You'd find a lot more of an older age group out on the streets etc for longer if the age limit was pushed to 21.

I really need to apply for my provisional, i've been taking my passport out with my sometimes :\

I would have quite happily stuck to the law. I wasn’t one of the masses who were itching to get the pub as soon as they turned 18 and get leathered

A drag queen was flyering an event the other day and she said to my friend

'Don't worry love it's an all ages event'

He said,' I'm 32 :|'

Didn't know whether to be offended or flattered. But yeh I know loads of people in their 30's that get ID'd all the time.
They're still much looser about it in the UK than the US though.

phase it in over 3 years , one year at a time, that way no one who has been allowed to drink has to stop

My sister is 23 and didnt have any proof of age and was not allowed in any clubs/pubs.

It is abit silly.

Haha what a generalisation. Really when i get to your age i'd im guessing your much older than 21 i really dont want to be that bitter and blame the youth.

Im 17 I drink alcohol i dont ruin anybody's saturday night and i have fun even if it is illegal.

They should raise the drinking age to 21 imho. Keep all the kids out of the pubs and clubs, they irritate me these days. :( [/grumpy old man]

I think they should bar miserable old sods like you from bars.

You might not but plenty do. These kids seem to think they can take on the world after they have downed a few shandys. Sometimes can be quite amusing seeing two chavs tickling each others arse’s when they’ve had a sniff of a pint but more often than not they won’t take it outside and end up knocking everyone else about while they’re trying to act manly.

And to answer your question yes I’m 27.
