The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

Ah right, I wondered what those new little arrows were for. In typical fashion with Zwift, I didn't dare click them, just in case it destroyed or caused some form of chaos to the entire set workout I was in.

Current annoyances with Zwift are that the 3s delay power on screen shown is completely different (and wrong) when compared to what is shown on a Garmin 810 reading the data from the same PM set to 3s also.... It's unusable in Zwift yet after the session the averages come out the same.... on which note, seeing your average power for a lap or interval when in workout mode on the Zwift screen I thought would be pretty damn basic but it doesn't even do that. Surely a basic feature a heap of people would love to have?
Constantly got my Garmin showing me at 300w whilst Zwift is saying "210w MORE POWER".... **** off Zwift.

They seem to be more fixated on stupid events/courses and daft things than proper integration of actual proper training functionality for "serious" folks.

30 mins potter round zwift this morning to loosen the legs after ToS and coach session on monday.

45 seconds off my PR up box hill! Happy days.

I've noticed this though I run 1s power on my Elemnt but don't find the discrepancy between the two to be that great.

Out of interest are you receiving data on Zwift over BT or ANT?

Unfortunately Zwift is aimed to put the fun & enjoyment back in to indoor riding rather than cater to the more dedicated serious cyclists training regimes.

I am using ANT FEC to the dongle on my laptop as I have a Garmin cadence sensor and HR monitor so figure best to put everything over ANT and ignore BT. This is also because BT is nothing but a pain in the backside when I try to use it for my Fitbit to my phone or use BT for the music in the car etc so I avoid it like the plague.

See you say that but it isn't true. They just introduced the functionality with Training Peals to build and export workouts to it and also the integrated upload direct to Training Peaks. That alongside the workout builder in Zwift itself and the new ability to adjust intensity of workout on the fly shows they are investing time and effort into serious training functions with the software.... yet they can't let you customise the GUI or even have a lap/session average power displayed? It's daft.

Have to agree, the Zwift UI needs a way to customise, or at least choose data fields.

They are adding more and more detailed training stuff, it wasn't long ago when there were no training sessons, just free ride! I think their market appeal of just 'jump on and ride' is primarily where their mind is at, getting people onto the platform still seems to be a huge part of their promotion, unfortunately for them (fortunately for us) that can't last forever. Can only hope their mindset goes to improving and developing what's already there for existing users rather than just adding more maps, while adding more sports!

I guess it is inevitable as it's quite rare that people who either don't enjoy indoor training or don't have a wedge of cash to burn buy high calibre smart turbo's capable of needing all this precision and fancy features.

I wonder what the ratio of people using non-smart/smart turbo's on Zwift is.

Benny, runners have been on zwift for at least a month now haha. Is this the first time you have seen one? Some bloke the other night wrote:
"jesus christ..."
*10 second delay*
"I just got PASSED by a runner"

Told you 'they' were coming :p
<snip>
Show's their time/mile split on the right hand side amongst other users
First one you've seen? I've seen loads but I guess as you don't often ride the current map you miss them!
"I just got PASSED by a runner"
I swear one overtook me on the pretzel, was very early days and he was glitching around but consistently jumping around around and then ahead of me lol :o

So I've decided as I'm using Zwift more and more, I need to move away from the dumb trainer.

Any advice on what to go for?
I'd prefer a direct drive really.
I like the Wahoo KICKR, but thats just too pricey. Can't justify spending more than 500-600 tops!

Cheers guys and gals.

So after borrowing a friends KICKR this week, I will now be justifying the extra cost for one, although it will have to be much later in the year.

You may find some fantastic deals on them second hand in the summer when people are riding outside! Saw some sell for £550/600 last year and even new ones going for below £700 in some deals.

I don't often ride the current map rotation, did spot one a few weeks back too. I'm usually finishing up around 6:30PM which is probably just before peak hours.

Rode a KickR albeit for all of about 90 seconds today for a 20s warm up and 20s sprint for max average power and then 30s to put my lungs back where they came from. Did feel nice though will want to get on one again before committing to upgrading the Vortex for next winter.

I do hope so :)

I've been lucky to have a mate who lent me his whilst he was away working for the week.

Going back on the basic Elite tonight has slammed me back down to earth!
