The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

Hopefully I don't end up with a lingering cough again. I changed my TR plan to start off with some light Z2 from Friday, which I hope I'll be OK to do by then.

Still struggling and Z2 is all my cardiovascular system has in it. My legs are crying out for a good vo2 max session, massive restless legs issues.

A mate convinced me to join a Zwift race this morning. 50 seconds in, the group was no where to be seen and I was back to a coughing mess. The difference between good form from a couple of weeks back and where I am at now is so big. :(

Did the Gorby workout on Zwift again last night. Brutal but I think it shows my FTP is in roughly the right place because I was really struggling to complete it.

Will probably do another FTP test before Christmas to check.

Been a while since I've done that one, but quite a challenge towards end iirc.

Another big challenge one is The Wringer, with decreasing amount of recovery between 30secs bursts of 205% FTP!

I've heard people say that they can't even get close to that one. Will have to try it some time and see how bad it is.

By the end of the last few sets of the Gorby the seconds feel like they are going at about 1/3rd speed. I wasn't convinced I was going to finish it.

I did it a while back but my FTP had been adjusted far too high (291 or something instead of 260) and I couldn't believe how hard it was. I knocked it down to the point I could just manage via the +/- buttons and unsurprisingly that happened to match up to the correct level for my actual FTP.

The mcarthy special is another one that almost seems broken with how difficult it is. Had to reduce and then abandon.

I mostly do medium SST as it works nicely for an alp climb with the finish being in the final blocks. It has let me unlock the Tron bike last week which was one of my targets.

What would people recommend for a more VO2 max targetted 1 hour workout?

I ended up stopping completely after this and only started picking up a bit late last week. The difference in health now and a month ago is night and day difference. My breathing is so much more relaxed on and off the bike. I'm not doing the F500 this year but doing an hour in total with the Zwift group ride in the middle of it. My power to heart rate ratio is more or less the same as where I was 2 months ago but ability sit for hours at a time needs working at. I might burn a week of AL that I have no other plans with and do a virtual festive 500 in late February/early march to get ready for our traditional long Easter ride through the Easter villages in Essex.

Drop in FTP due to lack of focus in workouts and little outdoor rides due to weather. To increase general fitness and power, going to do the Zwift "TT Tune Up" program due to time constraints and the generally shorter workout lengths compared with, for example, "Build Me Up". If I do get further free time, I'll just complement with z2 which will benefit longer outdoor road rides later in the year. I have good base fitness and a mix of road and MTB when not indoors. Any other workout/plan recommendations?

Don't increase FTP setting during TT Tune Up plan, later weeks are brutal!

Funnily enough I don't mind AdZ that much. The final couple of corners are brutal because if you have timed your effort levels right they are just pure pain but I quite like watching the average power for each sector come up and watching the corners count down.

@NightSt@lk3r what was your time?

I quite enjoy ADZ but i've never done it in anger. If i pace myself i can do it in 70-75 minutes without turning myself inside out.

I'd like to try the 60 minute attempt by the summer. Plucking up the courage to do ven-top

Radio tower can get in the bin. I'd also argue the routes 'Surrey Hills' and 'Achterbahn' are harder routes than ADZ. I've not tried the PRL half or PRL Full though.

I don't mind AdZ if I'm in the right mood, and find the extra progress info for each section helpful to maintain a consistent pace. I rather stupidly did the AdZ straight after a race a couple of days ago which the legs regretted a bit afterwards.
It's more fun than ven-top which can be pretty monotonous.
