The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

Anyone joined this Zwift academy? I signed up as I like signing up for things. Says I have to complete things now. I might do Jon's mix tonight, just the short one as I've not yet done any of the things I need to, and it'll be a start.

Any new workouts/ training schedules out there that are recommended? There are a load more than before, wondering if anyone recommends any?

I've seen it but saw it involved doing certain sessions in a certain period of time so didn't bother signing up as my turbo riding has been very sporadic rather than regular so far... When the weather changes in a month or two then I'll probably consider it more! :)

The GCN ones are good & tough!

Tried a couple of Cat A races now, they are pretty brutal and no chance of sticking with the group. Hopefully I can work my way up there but 4-5w/kg really means 4.5-5w/kg. A bunch of us got dropped last night and formed a small group and there was a cat C guy in it continually pushing close to 5w/kg. Don't know why he entered C in the first place, just ruins the race for everyone in that group when people are pushing the pace way beyond the category limit.

I'm kind of annoyingly in between as stretches of the B races can be too easy, particularly when people start backing off towards the end for the inevitable sprint. Granted I could try and push on alone in that situation but it's more motivating having a stronger wheel to chase. It would be cool to win a Cat B race at some point but 99% of my motivation for doing races is training so I want something that pushes me all the way.

Some boxes arrived today :)
Just a new TV, TV stand and some other stuff to be delivered before it's ready to go. I'll post pics of the finished setup.

Anyone else seen the new Wattbike Atom? Looks interesting, just waiting for some more reviews to land.

I saw DC Rainmakers preview video.
My issue with fitness style gym bikes is they are very solid - you really need some movement, like a real bike. Also I'm not sure how the Atom gear system will hold up.

Send the thong back and just wash your bike regularly :p

Hope those fans move some serious air because they look quite small, even if they are silent :)
The fans are perfect - they provide a focussed blast of air directed at an area rather than trying to cool the whole room with a large spread of air, like a standard large floor/upright fan. I also have socket remotes for them so each can be switched on/off from the bike whenever I like :)

Taking inspiration from the man to know

Not intending to sound condescending but have you trained indoors before? :) Just that to cool effectively you want to be moving the maximal amount of air over your skin and away from your body  multiple fans can disrupt airflow but that said despite having 1 20" high velocity turbine :p I could probably do with another

Did you watch the above video?
A large floor fan just blows air everywhere with a small amount hitting you. These smaller ones focus air where you want it to go.

Think light beams :)

Is that the folding Tacx mat ? If it is the Neo doesn't fit on it as the feet sit on the edge at the time I got my Neo Tacx didn't do a mat that was the correct size so I ended up with the Wahoo KickR mat. Tacx now make a mat that fits the Neo that's rollable like the Wahoo mat.

Quote from Wiggle Q&A

Will the Tacx Neo sit on it, or are the "wings" to wide

The Mat is 1700mm x 750mm. The widest point of the base of the Neo trainer is approximately 700mm so this should just fit on the mat. Hope this helps.

Tacx Neo is 750mm wide (I've just measured mine), the feet are right at the edge of the smaller mat. I found it would move slightly when getting on/off and then eventually sit off the edge of the mat, the bigger mat is better as it never moves. The fact Tacx have released a bigger mat for the direct driver trainers would suggest they think it is required.

Really enjoying Zwift, got my turbo setup on Friday and done a ride every day so far. Not the longest, I tend to stick to an hour at the moment as I'm sweating so much but it's great fun. I love being able to listen to podcasts or watch Sky Go and Zwift as well.

It's been a massive wake up call being able to see power output, I by no means thought I had a high FTP but I thought I was putting out more than I am on flats. I tend to hover around 160-180 and on climbs I'm around 250~. I'm going to do a proper FTP test this week as a baseline and then do some structured programs to try and get that up

Did the mountain route on Saturday, 45 minutes of pretty much non stop climbing at around 7~ average, with the last part being above 10% the whole time. That was tough :D

Steedie86 if anyone wants to add me (if you can do that), would be good to do some rides with some of you (and be dropped :()

What trainer did you opt for?
