The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

I went for the Snap in the end. Ben kept telling me off for wanting the direct Kickr :p

Definitely going to invest in a decent floor fan. The desk fan I'm using at the moment to the side just doesn't cut it lol

I was telling you off for wanting to be retarded and foolish :p don't think, just buy everything I say :D

When you can have a decent smart turbo and power on the road for the same price (or less!) as a direct drive trainer, it's a no brainer. Especially for your first 'indoor season' ;)

I set up my Neo trainer today. The only slight issue I have is the gear indexing is slightly off so I need to spend a little time sorting that.
I'm running Zwift through an iPad Pro with an Apple HDMI lead to pass to the TV and have the iPhone on the bike running Zwift remote. Each fan is remote control (on/off) so I can warm up and then switch them on when needed without having to get off the bike :)

All you girls with your fans. A real man just sweats. Buckets.

^I really need to get a big telly in my garage. They're just so expensive.

Has anyone tried Road Grand Tours, got accepted to their beta then forgot all about it, gonna give it a whirl tonight instead of Zwift.

Its got Mont Ventoux, the Stelvio and something in Mallorca

Just gotta download it first on my third world internet

Looking at the KickR Snap myself too as the nights are drawing in here.

What other options would people recommend (direct drive any good for a similar budget?)

Are there any decent budget trainer options for a 700 wheel? Maybe up to £150.

Needs to be reasonably quiet, and would need a new back tyre to swap for the gravel jobbie currently fitted. Not bothered by "smart" options but a remote adjustment for resistance would be nice.

Edit - reading that it might matter but my rear end is disk braked. 145MM hub width.

Ok so for the 2nd time in a week a planned training session (outdoor track) has been rained off.

Getting closer to admitting defeat and buying an indoor trainer to fill in the gaps the wet weather is going to cause. :(

Snap seems decent spec wise, but not used it personally. I've got the flux, which I have found OK, so far. I was testing it against my garmin the other day and it's not bad on results power wise, too. Nice and sturdy direct drive and without the pricetag of the Kickr or the Neo.

Likewise, I have 2 Vortex's and think they were great value. They seem to have shot up, probably because it's end of summer, but I didn't pay anything like they have them up at (400EUR over here!)

I have 2 at home actually :o One going spare, but my issue is shipping over there (they are super heavy and postage from france is stupidly expensive for some reason!) or I'd offer it up!

Come to the decision I need a plan B for winter - I'm generally ok to ride if it's just a bit wet but I don't fancy full on downpours or icy roads.

So took the plunge and ordered a Vortex, Ant+ dongle, USB extension cable. I used BC discount to get the Vortex for £270 delivered!

If you get on Zwift etc you may actually find you enjoy it, I know I did, otherwise turbo training is soul destroying

^ it is if it's aimless. Add in some structure and progressive goals and it gives you something to focus on other than just accumulating junk miles :)

I was doing the GCN workouts on Youtube and rides on the kurt kinetic training app but turbo training was just soul destroying for me, and until I tried Zwift I just couldn't face the turbo.

I guess you're right on the progressive goals, as its the game like element to Zwift which adds to the experience like getting new wheels and kit etc and that there is a more social element too, like you feel like you are chasing someone down, even if you are on a set workout

I guess I'll get a trial in the box from Tacx - I'll definitely give it a whirl.

Bit concerned my laptop isn't going to cut the mustard - it's only an i5/integrated graphics/6gb ram jobbie.

You should be fine tbh - it might not do 1080 but you'll be OK. I've run it on my iPhone the last 2 times, as my computer kept crashing.

Cool. I think the laptop panel is only 720p anyway so I'd already binned the idea of this looking half decent, it's going to look like a PS1 game. :p
