***The iOS 5 Thread***

Hmmmmm, it's actually working now after the 4th go, didn't do anything different

Edit: Yep, it's nearly finished restoring, just keep trying if you have the error

IOS 5 error

When I try and update my iphone 3GS to IOS 5 it first backs up

extracting software...

connecting to itunes store...

verifying restore with apple...

Then I get this message

"Alex's iPhone" could not be restored. an unknown error occurred (3200)"

I have looked and found this info

Errors 3000-3999 (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an old version of iTunes is installed, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see error 1004 above), or because of your Internet proxy settings

I have tried disabling NOD32 whilst running it, no other firewall. Itunes 10.5 is installed. No enteries in the hosts file

Who has upgraded their 3GS to IOS5 with no problems?

wrong section, use the software thread...

its because so many people are trying to do this at the same time all over the world, mine worked after the 4th time in Airplane mode

Mine looks to be working now. I believe it is the Apple server which verifies your device ID which is overloaded. I did put my Ipad2 into Airplane mode (shouldn't make a difference) and it worked, but that is probably coincidence!

Worked for me. Had an error, just resync'd the phone and it worked the second time.

Lost my contacts for a bit too but they have come back I think that was part of iCloud.
