** The iOS10 thread **

Argh!

Either the option has been moved elsewhere - or it looks like you can't do a "clear all" on the "Up Next" list in the Music app anymore.. which is really annoying!

I love the new sounds.

I haven't got a clue what's going on in iMessage though.

I'm wondering how on earth these stickers etc. are supposed to work when your texting non-iPhone users.

Does everything get converted to an MMS and send over the cell network that way?

I have 'Send as SMS' selected so that my normal texts always go through, as it used to be the case that if the other user had their phone off or no signal the iMessage wouldn't go through. Send as SMS as least makes sure the text gets sent.

Do iMessages get stored server side and delivered when the user is online these days?

If not, I imagine I could be getting lots of charges if I use these fancy new features and they get sent as MMSs over the cell network.

EDIT: I've just seen I can turn off MMS Messaging in the 'Messages' settings, will be interesting to see how it works with that turned off and if I just get errors instead.

That's what I'm not sure about.

I tried 'Liking' a text message from Vodafone using a sticker and I got a send message failure in iChat on my Mac, which seems to suggest it tried to send the original message I liked, back as the subject the SMS (maybe with extra meta data added that only iOS will interpret to indicate I like that specific message?)

Might have failed as it's to a 'Vodafone' shortcode number though, not a normal mobile. I haven't got anyone handy to test it with on a non-iPhone.

On the phone it only only says 'Message Send Failure' in the message list, in in the conversation itself there's no error.

I just tested the 'Liking' of iMessages on non iOS10 users.

On your screen it shows the like sticker, but it sends them a text message saying:

'Liked' "Contents of the message that was liked"

It bit cumbersome, but I guess it gets the point across, I imagine that would work with SMS' too.

I guess they just include a description of what action you took and associate it with whatever message it was applied to by repeating it.

Is there anyway of seeing the iOS10 download progress? Been downloading for ages, feels like it's stuck :/

Might have to go iTunes route.

Edit: Ignore me, scroll you muppet

Has anyone found a way to remove purchased music from the music app that is being held in the cloud? I don't want them showing at all.

Also, is there a way to remove the star from popular tracks?

Urgh, finally figured out why the special text effects weren't working for me when I hold down the send button in Chat.

They don't work when the 'Reduce Motion' setting is on, which I think I turned on a couple of years ago.

Seems very odd that they're directly related, I'd have thought they could seperate out normal navigation and transitional 'motion' from special effects in the chat app.

Oh no, that's not good. I've gotten so used to the reduced motion setting that that animations with it turned on feel way to animated, might have to switch it off again and miss out on the animated messaging effects.

They should really separate that out as it's own setting.

Updated my SE with no problems and that was an OTA update. They have ruined the photos library imo. 'All Photos' is just a mixed up mess with no apparent means of sorting them :(

Updated iPhone SE.

Seems fine overall, few things I don't like and hope they change.

Notification centre is cluttered with horrible white boxes, weather, calendar and so on, I know these can be edited but the white boxes look awful!

Apple Music is much better if a little basic looking, but one thing I hate is the album art when playing music it does not fill the top half of the screen anymore.:(

And unlocking phone, having to press home button after using touch ID, ok this can be reverted back to before but why change it in the first place!

Having not taken much notice of apple pay, I just read the article about apple pay with iOS10 and mac sierra with regards to support for online shopping via safari browser.

That's great to hear and cant wait to try it out once a lot of websites support apple pay.

Once thing that's a bit annoying is that they've put the command center in order of 1, 2, 3 from when you first swipe up.

So to get to the Home Automation scenes you need to swipe up, then right twice.

They should have put music on the left and homekit on the right, so you only have to make one sideways swipe no matter which one you're after.

Quite annoying that, as I was hoping to be able to free up prime above the fold widget space on the widgets screen. But 3 swipes is a lot more cumbersome than 1, when it doesn't need to be like that.
